Legislative Assistant – Summit Strategies Government Affairs, LLC
Summit Strategies is a government affairs practice founded in 2015, with offices on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. and in Portland, Oregon. The firm specializes in federal matters involving transportation, natural resources, energy, tax, trade, labor, and Indian affairs; and, on local, regional, and State affairs in Oregon. Summit Strategies represents a wide range of public entities, business clients, and trade associations.
Summit Strategies is seeking a Legislative Assistant to join our Capitol Hill team in Washington, D.C. (currently operating remotely due to the pandemic). Successful candidate will be self-motivated and able to tackle a variety of different tasks including:
Research and Analysis
- Media and news tracking – Review a wide variety of publications on a daily basis and share relevant reports, alerts, and research with the Summit Strategies team.
- Attend applicable Congressional hearings, webinars, zoom meetings, and draft accompanying summaries.
- Perform legislative and policy research including legislative tracking and analysis, federal and local grant tracking, appropriations tracking.
- Monitor client specific current events/legislation/regulations.
- Prepare policy primers, fact sheets and white papers.
Communications
- Prepare written materials, including digital communications, assist with regular updating of Summit Strategies web site and social media maintenance.
- Assist in the preparation of Summit Strategies’ weekly memos “The Week Ahead” and “Weekly Trek”.
- Assist with proposal development, responses to RFP’s and other marketing efforts.
Client Initiatives
- Prepare client and partner schedules, including scheduling meetings with Members of Congress, government agencies, and other organizations.
- Occasionally accompany clients/partners on Congressional and agency lobby visits.
Qualifications
Candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must be organized and able to multi-task. Interest or previous experience in transportation or natural resource policy and/or congressional scheduling, marketing, and/or communications is preferred. Knowledge of WordPress and HTML a plus. The ability to maintain the confidentiality of office work, client matters, and policies & procedures is mandatory.

Compensation: $40,000 – $53,000 depending on experience, includes competitive benefits package.
