Job Description
Disability Rights Tennessee (DRT) seeks a Legal Assistant to assist the legal team with complex litigation, document management, and other legal-related tasks. This position may be based anywhere in Tennessee within 60 miles of one of DRT’s offices (Nashville, Knoxville, or Memphis) and requires occasional travel including on rare occasions overnight travel of one to two days. DRT is the designated Protection & Advocacy System (P&A) and Client Assistance Program (CAP) for Tennessee. For over 45 years, our agency has served more than 57,000 Tennesseans. What You’ll Do
Litigation Support and Document Management includes attending meetings including notetaking, supporting discovery, filling legal briefs, maintaining litigation and legal files, and communicating with clients and courts. It also may include some limited legal research and writing.
Formatting letters and finalizing correspondence and other legal documents
Calendaring and scheduling for litigation tasks and meetings.
General administrative support
Keys to Success
- Associates degree or certificate in related field with two years of experience or
- Bachelors degree in related field and one year of experience
- Must reside within Tennessee and within 60 miles of a DRT office
- Ability to engage in logical analysis
- Sound professional judgement
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficient use of computers and MS Office software.
- Ability to learn software specifically designed for organizing litigation, such as iConnect or Everlaw.
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Ability to professionally represent DRT
- Commitment to increasing knowledge of the disability community
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills
What Else You Should Know
Education requirements are flexible: a related degree is preferred, but relevant experience may substitute.
The position is full-time, with 30 – 37.5 hours per week. Daily Schedule may be flexible.
You must live within Tennessee and within 60 miles of the Knoxville , Memphis or Nashville DRT office.
In-office work will be required at times; remote work is permitted for this position.
The role involves occasional travel and rare overnight travel of one to two days.
Personal transportation, a valid TN driver’s license, and insurance are required.
Business travel expenses are reimbursed, and rental cars are provided for travel exceeding 150 miles roundtrip.
Home internet access is required.
Equipment and technology will be provided by DRT.
This position begins at $47,500, and the exact salary depends on experience, education, and skills.
