About the Role
We are looking for talented engineers to join our firmware teams! Please note we only have internship opportunities during Summer 2021.
The Field Quality Engineering Intern will own and lead projects from end-to-end. You will have the opportunity to validate new Samsara hardware as well as troubleshoot existing field issues. Setting up experiments and participating in field validation requires a hands on engineer that is comfortable getting their hands dirty, but also requires an engineer that can perform analysis on these results and publish to the engineering organization.
In this role, you will:
- Participate in new product installation and validation in vehicles and other assets.
- Document detailed installation procedures.
- Go onsite with Samsara customers to learn how our customers use our products and identify any issues.
- Research and recommend hardware solutions to specific issues and customer escalations.
- Set up experiments, complete analysis and report results to the wider engineering team.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Obsess Over the Customer, Build for the Long Term, Growth Mindset) as we scale globally and across new offices
An ideal candidate is/has:
- Pursuing a major focused in engineering (Electrical, Computer Engineering, Mechanical, Mechatronics)
- Very comfortable taking things apart using basic hand tools.
- Has been a part of an engineering team or project that required hands on design or assembly. (Electric Cars, Robotics etc)
- Analytical skill set (Tableau, R, Matlab). Python and Pandas a bonus.
- Drivers license and is comfortable driving 26ft. Vehicles.
- Has some experience with vehicle CAN networks and protocols. (OBD II, J1939, J1708 etc.)
- Previous mechanic, contractor, technician or military experience.
- Has excellent communication and presentation skills.

Regarding COVID-19
With the spread of COVID-19 globally, Samsara’s offices will remain closed until further notice with the exception of phase 1 employees that require access to hardware and lab equipment.
Our primary concern is for the health and well-being of our employees as well as candidates. We have transitioned all interviews and new hire onboarding to be conducted virtually via Zoom video conferencing. We have allowed employees to work from countries and states where Samsara is a registered entity through June 2021. All employees (except field roles) are expected to return to our offices when they reopen.
