The Department of Journalism invites applications for part-time instructors to teach online and/or on-campus, undergraduate and/or graduate courses beginning in Fall 2022 in advertising, journalism, public relations, sports public relations, design and/or photojournalism.
The ACEJMC accredited Department of Journalism at Ball State University offers undergraduate majors in advertising, public relations, journalism graphics, photojournalism, magazine media, news, and journalism education, as well as graduate programs in journalism, public relations, and emerging media design and development. The department’s innovative curricular approach to advertising and public relations education combined with exceptional co-curricular opportunities and facilities promise to graduate real-world ready professionals for the strategic communication careers of the future. The Holden Strategic Communication Center is the state-of-the-art home to the departmentally supported integrated strategic communication agency, McKinley Ave. The agency works in cooperation with Ball State University’s independent student media including the Daily News (print and online newspaper), Ball Bearings (print and online magazine), NewsLink Indiana (television newscast), and Byte (online entertainment magazine), which are housed in the Unified Media Lab.
Duties include: Teach online and/or on-campus, undergraduate and/or graduate courses beginning in Fall 2022 in advertising, journalism, public relations, sports public relations, design and/or photojournalism.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in advertising, journalism, public relations, sports administration, mass communications, or field related to the classes taught by the date of appointment.
OR
A Bachelor’s Degree and evidence demonstrating a high level of professional proficiency and expertise in advertising, journalism, public relations, sports public relations, mass communications, or field related to the classes taught by the date of appointment.
Evidence may include:
- High-quality portfolio and/or résumé including 5+ years of experience in relation to courses to be taught
- Evidence of leadership/management experience and/or evidence of professional
experience in highly competitive professional media environments - Nationally recognized license or certification
- Significant professional awards
- High-quality peer-reviewed scholarly and/or juried creative activities
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications: Terminal degree from an accredited college or university in advertising, journalism, public relations, mass communications, or related field relevant to the classes taught; five years teaching experience; and five years professional media experience.
