This is an exciting opportunity in Mississauga, Ontario for a Hybrid Systems Electrical Engineer.
This dual product/project focused position leads the overall technical coordination of lower complexity product development activities and is accountable for the project management of technical risk and quality of the product up to and including early production. This position integrates the requirements of the many interdisciplinary and cross functional stakeholders of product development, often involving difficult decisions that impact cost and delivery without sacrifice to the quality expectations of the value package profile. Other important stakeholders of this role include preferred partner suppliers, manufacturing, purchasing, technical leadership and marketing teams.
Main focus will include working in business processes of Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI) or Current Product Support (CPS) and using tools such as Product Development Six Sigma (PDSS), iDFMEA, Voice of the Customer and Voice of Other Stakeholders (VOC/VOX), Integrity, MS Office Suite, New Unique and Difficult (NUD) and project risk 9-box and Value Package Introduction – Project Portfolio Management (VPI-PPM), all required to support high quality decision making.

* Obtains input and negotiates with program leadership, customers, customer teams, product engineers or technology teams to deliver robust prototype and production designs, technical risk mitigation plans, and coordinated deliverables of new or current product change activity.
* Makes decisions in the areas of design and project risk trade-offs that impact program cost or delivery without sacrifice of quality expectations.
* Provides independent leadership of smaller business impact projects or ownership of complex components, products, systems or services with greater elements of ambiguity over the senior or lead engineer level and with full accountability to the project team.
* Delivers independent execution of established and emerging work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge.
* Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across a functional discipline area within a business unit site.
* Coordinates and directs work amongst technicians and temporary student employees, assists in the transfer of knowledge to lesser experienced engineers through either indirect (scope of influence) or direct management of a small, local group of engineers.
* Provides support and guidance to influence technical direction within a project team and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role.
* Operates as a recognized specialist in a discipline or product area within the immediate team.
Skills
Project Management – Establishes and maintains the “Balanced Triangle” of Scope, Schedule and Resources for a temporary effort (a “project”).
Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control – Plans, schedules, coordinates and executes the activities involved in developing a product to a respectively aligned hierarchy of requirements and technical profiles; monitors and communicates across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations; ensures product capability meets or exceeds expectations and takes mitigating actions when project risks are higher than expected; understands the full product life cycle process and stakeholders.

System Requirements Engineering – Uses appropriate methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed; establishes acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation; tracks the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle; assesses the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources; creates and maintains information linkages to related artifacts.
Product Problem Solving – Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.
Product Verification and Validation Management – Coordinates the development of design verification and system validation plans from a variety of inputs to identify failure modes while managing risk and relative priority; evaluates analytical and experimental test results following engineering principles to verify that products meet internal technical requirements and to validate that design solutions meet customer needs; produces recommendations with technical documentation to support product decisions.

Experience
* Minimum five years of hands on experience with design and/or specify custom control electronics, energy storage /battery subsystems, power electronics subsystems (DC-DC, DC-AC, AC-DC), and software for the control and monitoring of fuel cell hybrid systems.
* Minimum two years of experience as a Technical Lead of projects in electrical design, electrical engineering.
* Schematic layout and component sourcing for complete hybrid systems.
* Hardware and software troubleshooting both in component development and production support roles.
* Prior work experience in developing electric and hybrid systems for heavy duty mobility (automotive, rail, aerospace) is an asset.
* Automotive manufacturing industry experience.
* Familiarity with Canadian safety codes and standards in electrical and electronic systems design.
* Strong ability to develop software for control applications, specifically for the PIC microprocessor family and TMS320 Texas Instruments processors.
* Ability to design and set-up electrical and mechanical test fixtures for testing and to read and design electrical schematics for complex systems.
Required Education, Licenses or Certifications
College, university, or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Advanced degree preferred.
