Position Title: Homeless Youth Program Coordinator

The Homeless Youth Program Coordinator plays a key role in Interaction’s mission to support youth and families to thrive in their communities. This position is housed within the Youth Programs department and works closely with other youth and young adult case managers, clinical services, and community partners to provide collaborative, comprehensive services.
This position manages several short term shelter apartments in Windham County, VT for up to four youth aged 18 – 24 experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness, providing case management services while identifying and pursuing longer-term solutions to allay homelessness. This position provides additional case management services to 3-5 youth or young adults who are not housed in the Homeless Youth Program.
Responsibilities Overview:
Shelter program management:
● Ensure the ongoing habitability of 4 apartments that provide 18-month emergency housing to youth who are in the process of securing longer-term solutions
● Assist youth enrolled in the program to develop skills to maintain housing
● Ensure the health, safety and general security of all youth enrolled in the program
● Conduct at least weekly in-home visits with youth placed in shelter apartments and house meetings for congregate housing
Individual youth and young adult case management:
● Maintain a caseload of 1 -4 shelter residents and 3-5 additional youth or young adults, providing case management services such as: life skills development; client-driven goal development related to well-being, permanent connections, employment and education; and securing safe, stable housing
● Assist youth in identifying housing, applying for subsidized housing, or securing housing vouchers
● Refer people receiving services to internal and external service providers as needed
● Share in responsibility for after hours support to youth and families through on-call rotations
Intra and inter-agency collaboration:
● Attend and contribute to regular meetings with community service providers
● Participate in building a culture of collaboration and shared ownership in Youth Programs

Additional Information
Applicants should ideally have the following skills:
● Experience with collaborative service delivery that values family and youth voice and input in all facets of service
● Ability to think on the fly with creativity, self-reflection and groundedness
● Skilled at crisis intervention work; able to respond with intention
● Commitment to service provision that is centered in a deep-held belief that youth and families fare best when they stay together until the youth is ready to transition to independent living
● Able to build relationships with young people, families and community partners that are rooted in empathy and mutual accountability
● Understands that systems-change needs to be rooted in both pragmatism and idealism
How can I be considered for the position?
You can be considered for this position if you meet the following qualifications:
● This position requires a BA/BS OR equivalent amount of education, training, work experience and/or lived experience
● One year of experience working with youth and young adults.
● This is a field position and frequent travel is required, including client transport. Reliable transportation and comprehensive insurance is required.

Compensation: $22/hr and comprehensive benefits.
Interaction works in partnership with United Nurses & Allied Professionals, Local 5050, and this position is included in the collective bargaining agreement.
