Full-Time HECHO Program Manager
Job Description
Hispanics Enjoying Camping, Hunting, and the Outdoors (HECHO) was created to help fulfill our duty to conserve and protect our public lands for future generations. We provide a platform for Hispanics to contribute knowledge and perspectives about public lands conservation issues, enhance leadership capacity of Hispanic leaders, and promote Hispanic cultural heritage and connections to nature. While our focus is on the protection of public lands in the American Southwest, our work has a national scope and impact. To achieve our mission of empowering Hispanic leaders to engage their communities in the conservation of our nation’s public lands, we are seeking a Program Manager who speaks fluent English and Spanish to work in our Denver, Colorado office. There will be travel in this role of approximately 25 nights a year.
Reporting to the HECHO Executive Director, the HECHO Program Manager is responsible for the planning and implementation of HECHO’s programs and for developing and executing effective advocacy and engagement strategies. This role is responsible for the delivery of HECHO’s programs, as well as tracking HECHO’s deliverables and deadlines, and providing support and outreach to program participants, including developing training and outreach materials and directly assisting them by email and phone. The Program Manager cultivates relationships with grasstops leaders, plans and leads community events, and represents HECHO, often speaking on the record about public lands issues and HECHO’s work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement plans to grow core HECHO programs, including: the conservation council, which cultivates, builds capacity for, and creates a formalized network of Hispanic public lands leaders; and the digital advocacy network, which deploys calls/letters to elected officials, media outlets, etc. in targeted geographies
Lead and deliver outreach and engagement activities to recruit for, build, and promote HECHO’s programs
Provide support to the Executive Director to advance the HECHO Advisory Board’s charter and track progress toward goals
Drive the process and work with communications staff to facilitate creation of educational, training, and advocacy tools, including: fact sheets, videos, webinars, workshops, reports, talking points, opinion media, and social media posts
Support and mobilize conservation council members and the digital advocacy network to advance key public lands conservation policies
Serve as an ambassador for HECHO, building and managing relationships with elected officials, community leaders, government agencies, non-profit partners, farmers, ranchers, media, etc.
Coordinate and lead community meetings and events, including developing and delivering presentations.
Identify funding opportunities and collaborate on securing funding for programs, and assist with writing grant proposals and reports
Ensure successful program results, prepare reports and other written products, and disseminate key findings to professional and general audiences.
Organize, coordinate logistics, and carry out tasks to ensure effective meetings, calls, conferences, webinars, and other events
Take notes during calls and meetings, identify and prioritize action items, discuss follow-up points with team members, and disseminate notes and deliverable timelines.
Carry out additional duties, as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least five years of professional experience
Strong public speaking and presentation skills
Experience organizing and successfully motivating advocates to take action on an issue
Experience with program development, implementation, and delivering results
Experience working with people from different backgrounds and ability to bring people together to work toward common goals
Familiarity with conservation issues, public land management agencies, and/or legislative and administrative processes
Conversational Spanish language skills preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Proven success strategically conceiving and executing programs with clear objectives, benchmarks, and deliverables in accordance with deadlines, including strong project management skills.
Ability to collaborate, coordinate, and communicate effectively and efficiently with both internal and external partners.
Demonstrated experience developing outreach plans and implementing outreach activities.
Experience managing simultaneous work streams and tracking deliverables, through various organization systems and work flow processes.
Experience organizing and coordinating calls, meetings, workshops, conferences and/or events, including taking notes, identifying action items, and following up with responsible parties
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to establish priorities and manage activities independently.
Competency in skills needed to secure and manage consistent grant funding;
Demonstrated knowledge of Hispanic heritage, in particular cultural and historical connections to the land, air, and water, and ability to share knowledge in a culturally responsive way.
Salary Range and Benefits:
Program Manager salary is $60,000 a year.
