Full-Time Head of Olympic Performance Programme

British Triathlon Federation – Posted by British Triathlon Loughborough, England, United Kingdom

Job Description

Following the success of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games and as the sport moves further into the Paris cycle, the team at British Triathlon are looking to recruit a new role of Head of Olympic Performance Programme.

This brand-new role is being introduced following a restructure of the coaching leadership team on the Olympic (Triathlon) programme. The Olympic Head Coach – who has strategically led the programme since the start of the Rio cycle – is moving to take on a technical coaching advisory role for our highest priority Olympic athletes (and their coaches). He will leave behind him this vital and hugely exciting leadership position that will be chiefly responsible for leading and delivering the national Olympic programme activities through the Paris cycle.

The full-time role will be multi-faceted and will act as the key interface between the Performance Director and the Olympic programme’s athletes and staff. The role’s key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing overall leadership to the Olympic (Triathlon) programme, ensuring athletes, coaches and support staff are fully aligned to, and engaged with the national programme of activities.
  • Leading the strategy for all national Olympic programme activities (camps/competitions).
  • Leading, managing and developing the Head Coaches of the World Class Programme (WCP) Training Centres in Loughborough and Leeds.
  • Ensuring the Individual Athlete Planning (IAP) process is embedded with the WCP athlete cohort and that athlete needs are reflected in the national programme of activities.
  • Leading the Paris 2024/LA 2028/Gold Coast 2032/and beyond Olympic Games preparation and delivery strategy (including individual and mixed-relay disciplines).

With our Olympic Head Coach remaining in a technical coaching advisory capacity, the candidate does not need to be a Triathlon expert (though an understanding of Triathlon, or one of swim/bike/run, would be of huge benefit). Instead, we are looking for a high quality, values-led person, who is passionate about ‘developing people and delivering excellence’ – British Triathlon’s Performance Mission for the Paris cycle.

The successful candidate must have a sound understanding of coaching and coaching practice and must also have experience in endurance sport. The role would be ideally suited to an experienced coach, performance scientist or performance manager who is looking to transition from day-to-day delivery to a more strategic role overseeing a programme of world-leading athletes and their coaches.

Critically, we are searching for an engaging, proactive and knowledgeable individual who thrives on leadership and decision making and who excels at galvanizing groups of high-performing people (athletes and coaches) to follow their lead.

The role will be based in either Loughborough or Leeds (or anywhere in between with a regular commute to both our WCP training centres) and will interact with a truly world-class group of athletes, coaches and support staff. There will also be a regular requirement for overseas travel to training camps and international competitions, including the World Triathlon Championships Series (WTCS) of races, the World/European Championships and the Olympic Games.

Triathlon is a dynamic, forward-thinking sport that prides itself on growth and innovation. As the most successful Triathlon nation at the London, Rio and Tokyo Olympic Games, the British programme is at the forefront of the sport. The new role of Head of Olympic Performance Programme is a unique opportunity to be at the heart of even greater success in Paris and beyond, and to create even more ‘great experiences through swim/bike/run’.

With less than three years until the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, we are looking for the successful candidate to begin as soon as possible – and certainly before the beginning of the 2022 Triathlon season.

Benefits:

In addition to a competitive salary, there are lots of other perks, including:

  • Car allowance
  • Pension scheme that is matched up to 6%
  • Bupa Cashback Healthcare Scheme
  • Treat yourself with Perkbox Discounts
  • Fancy a new bike? Year-round Cycle to Work scheme available
  • Regular international travel
  • Descente GB kit and access to various Triathlon related product discounts as an employee and a member of a Triathlon Home Nation.
