Would you like to share your passion for aquatics with others? Would you like to ensure the safety of our members in the pool while acting as the lead staff on the pool deck and actively engaging with members?
As a Head Lifeguard, you will create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement by maintaining surveillance over pools and aquatic deck areas, monitoring activities, identifying safety issues and concerns, and communicating with members. You will also assist with the development and maintenance of aquatic programs (to include, but not limited to: lifeguarding, swim instruction, water aerobics, staff supervision and training, mission emphasis, as well as administrative projects).
If hired for this position you will respond to situations and provide the appropriate intervention, possibly including water rescues, first aid, or CPR, and follow up in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. You will ensure the safety of our members at all times by vigilantly scanning the water and pool deck areas. You will know, understand, and consistently communicate and apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. You will orient new lifeguards and swim instructor staff to pool procedures. You will mentor an assigned group of staff in achieving more diversity of abilities.
Are you a good fit?

- You have current Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen certifications.
- You are at least 16 years old.
- You have one year or more of related experience in lifeguarding and swim instruction.
- You have previous experience working with youth and diverse populations.
- You have knowledge and skills in program activities related to aquatics, office equipment, and the ability to instruct participants in techniques.

- Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to sit for long periods of time.
- Occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift or move a higher amount.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly in the water.
- Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
- Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
- See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
Starting Wage: $15.23+ per hour, depending on qualifications
Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week
