As we continue to grow and evolve, we are seeking a passionate and skilled Head Chef to lead our kitchen team and uphold our commitment to culinary excellence.

Job Summary:

The Head Chef will be responsible for overseeing all culinary operations at The Burnt Tongue. This includes menu development, food preparation, kitchen management, inventory control, staff training, and maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. The ideal candidate will be a creative and experienced culinary professional with a strong leadership presence, a deep understanding of kitchen operations, and a commitment to quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Culinary Leadership:
    • Develop and create exciting and diverse daily soup features, grilled cheese combinations, and salad options, aligning with The Burnt Tongue’s brand and customer preferences.
    • Ensure consistency and high quality in all food preparation and presentation.
    • Oversee all aspects of food production, from mise en place to plating.
    • Introduce new culinary techniques and efficiencies to enhance kitchen operations.
  • Kitchen Management:
    • Manage and mentor a small, dedicated kitchen team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
    • Develop and implement kitchen schedules, ensuring adequate staffing for all shifts.
    • Oversee inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and proper storage of all food and kitchen supplies.
    • Monitor food costs and implement strategies to minimize waste and optimize profitability.
    • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including HACCP principles.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen at all times.
  • Staff Training and Development:
    • Train new kitchen staff on recipes, techniques, and kitchen procedures.
    • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to team members to enhance their skills and performance.
    • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the kitchen.
  • Quality Control & Customer Satisfaction:
    • Uphold The Burnt Tongue’s reputation for exceptional food quality and customer satisfaction.
    • Address any food-related customer feedback or concerns promptly and professionally.
    • Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (1-3 years) as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or similar leadership role in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Culinary degree or equivalent professional culinary training is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of food costs, inventory management, and kitchen budgeting.
  • Demonstrated ability to create innovative and delicious recipes.
  • Extensive knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations (e.g., Food Handler Certificate).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Flexibility to work full-time hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Passion for fresh, high-quality ingredients and a commitment to culinary excellence.
