Through artistic excellence coupled with innovative, relevant programming; initiatives to connect with and grow new audiences; engagement with communities to ignite creativity across Chicago; and a modernized Opera House that is the setting for truly great experiences, Lyric is leading the advancement of opera. This collaborative vision will deliver ever more exciting, thought-provoking and inclusive audience and community experiences – while increasing the gravitational pull of our art form, our company, and our city.
Every year, Lyric Opera hosts a number of interns to enrich the opera house with new ideas and get the experience they are pursuing in their profession. Throughout the internship period, interns will get the chance to meet other fellow interns with their supervisors to learn more about the Opera house, what goes behind the scenes, and how departments work collaboratively to provide a cultural service to the Chicago region and the nation.
The Gift Planning program at Lyric allows patrons to leave legacy gifts to Lyric to provide major funds for future projects and operations. Patrons who have committed to leaving a planned gift to Lyric are welcomed into the Overture Society where they receive special benefits throughout the season to acknowledge and thank them for their foresight and generosity.
The Gift Planning internship will provide the opportunity to work on a variety of development projects during Lyric’s Spring season. This position will work directly with the Gift Planning Associate and will allow the candidate to gain extensive experience in administration, fundraising, systems development, and arts organization technology. The selected candidate will also gain valuable insight into the various financial products donors use to make legacy gifts to arts organizations.
Projects/duties include but are not limited to:
• Provide general assistance before and during key events such as Gift Planning Seminars and Overture Society events
• Input RSVPs for Gift Planning events
• Assist with direct mailings for Overture Society events and initiatives, including proofing, editing, design input, and distribution
• Assist with processing new gifts and updating accounts in Tessitura
• Assist with file organization projects and utilize Tessitura for data entry
• Assist in creating and distributing e-newsletters and e-mail communications
• Perform general clerical duties (filing, copying, mailing) as needed

Projects require the ability to prioritize and efficiently manage multiple tasks while ensuring timely completion of all duties required.
