Full-Time Financial Investigator I
Job Description
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is seeking to hire a Financial Investigator to work within the Investigations and Enforcement Bureau (“IEB”). The Financial Investigator I is responsible for working alongside Massachusetts State Police investigators in the IEB to perform background reviews of individuals seeking licensure. Financial investigative work includes, but is not limited to review, validation, and analysis of information to determine an individual’s integrity, honesty, good character and reputation; financial stability, integrity and background.
The Financial Investigator I works in a team environment under the guidance of the Financial Investigations Supervisor who evaluates the Financial Investigator’s work through review of work papers and reports.
Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
Examines, analyzes, and evaluates personal financial records (e.g., account statements, brokerage statements, tax returns, real estate documents, loan agreements, bank records, etc.) to determine source and adequacy of funds
Reviews financial information and/or reports from other gaming jurisdictions
Contacts appropriate internal and external sources to confirm accuracy of financial data presented by applicants
Prepares standard and non-standard correspondence, documents all work performed, and maintains files containing work papers and supporting documentation
Prepares clear and comprehensive financial investigation reports
Collaborates with team members comprised of State Police and other Financial Investigators to conduct interviews and background investigations
Supports and assists the Financial Investigations team as required
Travels as necessary to conduct financial investigations
Maintains accurate time-utilization reports and timesheets.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is responsible for the implementation of the expanded gaming law (Chapter 194 of the Acts of 2011). Under the law, the Commission is tasked with establishing a regulatory framework for the solicitation, licensing, taxation, and oversight of a maximum of three casino licenses and one slots parlor license in Massachusetts.
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications:
Knowledge or basic business accounting concepts and methods
Understanding of basic tax matters
Ability to perform research on specific issues that may arise
Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments with varying priorities, working independently or in a team environment
Flexibility in an evolving environment
Ability to interpret and communicate quantitative and qualitative results, express ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, licensed gaming establishments, and government officials
Ability to contribute actively to a work environment that embraces diversity, integrity, cooperation, acceptance, and mutual regard.
Minimum Experience, Education, and Training:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university
Minimum of three years of post-graduate work experience in finance or accounting
Experience in performing financial analysis
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet searches.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will be required to pass an extensive background check that includes a full credit check, CORI, drug screen, and finger printing.
