Temporary Fellowship Attorney

Job Description

Position:  Fellowship Attorney, Regulatory Assistance for Abortion Providers (“RAAP Fellowship Attorney”)                

Location:           Remote/Virtual (U.S.)

Status:                 Term-limited (16-month maximum term); Exempt

Reports To:        Staff Attorney, Regulatory Assistance for Abortion Providers

Starting Salary Range:  $74,000 – $92,500

Anticipated Start Date: April 2021

 

Position Summary

The RAAP Fellowship Attorney will report to a RAAP Staff Attorney and work alongside other RAAP Staff Attorneys. The position is intended to offer a recent law school graduate the  opportunity to develop expertise in the fields of regulatory compliance and reproductive  healthcare. The RAAP team is committed to the professional development and mentoring of the Fellowship Attorney, and will provide external healthcare compliance training (e.g., American Health Law Association’s Fundamentals of Health Law Training, Health Care Compliance Association’s Healthcare Basic Compliance Academy, or a similar training).

RAAP is a remote team and the Fellowship Attorney may be located anywhere in the  continental U.S.


Essential Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Working with other RAAP Staff Attorneys to support all aspects of RAAP’s work
  • Conducting legal research, writing, and analysis related to statutes and regulations governing the provision of abortion services
  • Increasing responsibility for providing abortion facilities with direct legal compliance assistance
  • Assisting in outreach to publicize RAAP to abortion providers, building relevant networks, and maintaining relationships with abortion providers, allied groups, and private attorneys who work with abortion providers

Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

  • J.D. required
  • Active membership in at least one state bar or bar results pending (membership in multiple state bars or in a Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) jurisdiction is a plus); for applicants who are awaiting bar exam results, please indicate the state and expected results date
  • 0-30 months of post-law school legal experience (relevant legal internships and non-legal work experience a plus)
  • Ability to work remotely (RAD will consider reimbursement for as-needed use of coworking spaces on a case-by-case basis. RAD purchases computer equipment for all employees, reimburses employees for standard office supplies, provides cell phone benefits, and provides productive workspace bonuses that employees can use for setting up a home office)
  • Demonstrated experience telecommuting, working virtually, or working with an off-site manager (or comparable work experience that shows an ability to succeed in an off-site work situation)
  • Proficiency or ability to quickly gain proficiency with Google and Office 365 applications including Gmail, Google drive, Google docs, and Microsoft Word
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Experience relevant to the essential responsibilities above
  • Experience using SalesForce

  • Comfort with telecommuting, working virtually, or working with an off-site manager; ability to succeed in an off-site work situation. The Fellowship Attorney should also be able to travel to in-person meetings in the U.S. approximately 4-6 times annually. Please note that RAD staff is not currently traveling due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Salary and Benefits

The starting salary for this position is $74,000 to $92,500 per year. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance, 3% employer match on 401k contributions, pre-tax transportation benefits, and annual paid time off that includes holidays, four weeks of vacation leave, two weeks of personal leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave.
