Full-Time Executive Administrative Assistant – Public Health
Job Description
Job Summary
This executive administrative assistant position, reporting to the Health Officer-Administrator, has a broad portfolio in managing long-term projects and assignments, and engaging in short- and long-term organizational planning and coordination, with the work closely aligned with the work of the Health Officer-Administrator and the department leadership team. The position performs with a high degree of independence, judgment and discretion, requiring minimal direction and the ability to make decisions independently. Public relations is a major element in the performance of duties, and contact will include meetings, correspondence and communication with staff, managers, officials and other individuals outside the department and County. Communications will frequently require complete knowledge of the Health Officer-Administrator’s activities and the basis for, and implications of programs and projects.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in business or public administration, public health or a related field or four years of administrative experience, which requires office management or primary responsibility for a major staff function; or any combination of required education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the job.
Knowledge of: office practices and procedures, business English, punctuation, grammar, syntax and spelling; effective research methods and recordkeeping; governmental budgeting procedures and fiscal planning methods;
Ability to: compose correspondence and reports in a literate manner; prepare and present material in clear and comprehensible terms; understand and execute complex oral and written instructions and apply available guidelines to various situations; apply initiative, discretion, judgment and organizational skills to a variety of projects, assignments and situations; develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, the general public, and employees and officials of other departments and agencies, demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and graphic applications
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to respond to public health emergencies or exercises at any time, except while on scheduled vacation or other leave.
- Must protect the privacy and security of protected health information as defined in accordance with HIPAA state and federal law.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.
- Must adhere to the Department’s employee immunity policy and provide documents as requested.
- Must successfully complete basic incident management courses and participate in emergency response trainings as requested.

Salary Grade: M3.507 ($22.27 – $28.47) per hour
