Job Summary
This position is being filled in the Hazard Assessment Program (HAP), Solid Waste Enforcement (SWE), and Pollution Prevention Assistance (PPA) within Environmental Public Health. This position will complete work in the following program areas – Lead Poisoning Prevention; Contaminated Property Revitalization; Drinking Water Source Protection; Pollution Prevention Assistance; and Solid Waste Enforcement. Positions of this class are responsible for protecting the health of citizens by providing technical assistance and education; conducting site investigations, solving difficult land and site development problems, and enforcing environmental health rules and regulations in the County’s service area. Employees deliver services using effective communication skills with a customer focus. Other duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in environmental health or a closely related area. Two years of successful experience in obtaining compliance with environmental health standards. Positions assigned to onsite sewage inspection require an Inspector Certificate of Competency. Registration as a Sanitarian is preferred. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the work may be substituted.
This position additionally will be required to obtain the following certifications within the designated timeline;
- Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification. (within 6 months of hire)
- Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) certification. (within 1 year of hire)
- State of Washington Department of Commerce Lead Paint certification (within 1.5 years of hire)
- Pb Risk Assessor certification (within 1.5 yrs of hire)
Knowledge of:
- Standard methods and techniques of inspectional work in environmental sanitation and public health.
- Applicable rules and regulations for the specialized areas assigned.
- Public relations techniques.
- Effective communication techniques, verbally or in writing.

Salary Grade: Local 335.38A $30.06 – $40.02- per hour
