Part-Time English Language Digital Skills Instructor (Part-Time)

Job Description

Job Summary

Instructors teach eight levels of ELL classes, ranging from pre-literacy to advanced, for adult immigrants and refugees that integrate and national standards and competencies. Teachers will work with each level of English learners to equip them with the computer skills necessary to be successful in the program and broader community.

 

Essential Job Functions

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Teach morning or evening ELL digital skills classes on a regular or substitute basis.
  • Teach face-to-face classes with some online components. Teach online classes if necessary.
  • Develop lesson plans, activities, and assignments aligned with standards and level-appropriate computer competencies.
  • Maintain student attendance and assessment records.
  • Identify areas of student need and differentiate instruction.
  • Collaborate on the development of standards-based curriculum.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in TESOL, Education or in a related field.
  •  Demonstrated ability to work with and provide customer service for diverse populations (faculty, staff, students, and general public).
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate classroom technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to create lessons tailored to specific skill levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate students and apply retention techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective computer skills instruction.
  • Maintains customer confidence and protects operational integrity by keeping information confidential.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and follow complex oral and written directions.
  • Must be welcoming, self-motivated, independent, willing to participate in required professional development, and detail-oriented with lesson plans, class records, and paperwork.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching certification.
  • ESL/reading or related endorsements.
  • Master’s in TESOL.
  • TESOL coursework.
  • Teaching experience with adults.

Employment Status

  • Part-time, hourly position.
  • Classes are from 9:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Fridays and 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays during fall and spring semesters.

 

Working Conditions

Requires skills for succeeding in an office environment, using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Work is performed in an office setting. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours. During course of day, interact with student, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.
