Full-Time Engineering Technician II – Project Inspector
Job Description
- Serve as the lead project inspector conducting independent complex inspections of structure and roadway items for project construction.
- Review safety and environmental items and supervise junior inspectors performing routine to moderately-complex inspections of roadway and structure construction processes and materials to assure compliance with contract agreements, standards, and specifications.
- Evaluate and apply engineering judgement to plan interpretation.
- Establish and maintain positive communications between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
- Traverse rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
- Apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Experience with contract administration, performing inspection, sampling, and testing of materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
- Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards and specifications.
- Computer skills using iPads, laptops, and desktop computers and HiCams, Share Point programs, plus math functions.
- Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
- Ability to work in close proximity of high traffic and heavy construction equipment.
- Skills to accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished.
- Ability to drive a State vehicle.
- Safety toe shoes required.
- Candidates with a valid Driver’s License is preferred.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
