Full-Time Energy Sector Manager – Remote Opportunity

Summary:

Tetra Tech ES, Inc., based in Arlington, VA, is seeking a Manager to support the development of new lines of business and the implementation of existing projects. A successful candidate will be conversant in technology and regulatory trends across the energy and climate sectors.

This position will report out of our office in Arlington, VA, however, there may be flexibility for the candidate to work remotely.  Frequent international travel (up to 30%) is required for this role.

Responsibilities:

Technical:

  • Manage analyses and research on a variety of emerging topics in the energy sector, including smart grid technology and utility modernization, renewable energy and storage deployment, electric mobility, climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy access, and energy nexus applications.
  • Conduct financial and economic project and market assessments, including preparing cost-benefit analyses and financial models.
  • Provide transaction and technical advisory for the structuring and financing of grid-scale, distributed (residential, commercial and industrial) and off-grid energy projects.
  • Develop thought leadership and position papers for publication on energy transition issues. 
  • Manage project delivery on a variety of projects and work streams that will include technical deliverables, project reports, presentations, and other work products. 
  • Promoting innovative solutions and methodologies to addressing energy transition issues. 

Business Development:

  • Support growth strategy development and market research.
  • Develop lines of business within Tetra Tech’s strategic interest, characterizing the landscape for competition, partnership, and talent.
  • Generate new client relationships through business outreach, conferences, and proposals. 
  • Support or lead preparation of expressions of interests and proposals, including researching technical topics and drafting technical inputs
  • Attend industry conferences and events to promote Tetra Tech.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential KSA’s required (experience, skills, education, certification, etc.)

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field including business administration, engineering, technology, renewable energy, economics.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience working on renewable energy / energy transition issues, either from a technical or policy perspective.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Capacity to manage several tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Must work effectively under deadlines, both independently and as a team member.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Willingness to travel internationally to project locations and conferences.

Valued but not required KSA’s:

  • Experience developing and implementing business models for energy nexus sectors including energy and health, energy and agriculture; energy and gender; energy and water; energy and waste.
  • Experience working with developing country private sector and social enterprises.
  • Involvement in working on projects funded by USAID and other donor agencies.
  • Spanish and/or French language fluency is a plus.
