As an Energy Control Center Operator, you will restore power faster by using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. You would act as the eyes and ears for our linemen, meter service technicians, and power quality technicians in the field. As the Energy Control Center Operator, you would work in a brand new storm-hardened energy control center complete with weather monitoring and security systems. This position requires shift work, with evenings, weekends, and holidays on a rotational basis. This position is also subject to on-call during emergencies. Valid driver’s license preferred.
Energy Control Center Operator Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent and at least three years related experience; or must have completed CHELCO’s Energy Control Center Apprenticeship.
- Must have basic knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
- Must have basic knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunication systems.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and courteously by telephone and radio.
- Must be able to monitor and coordinate equipment and operating systems and adjust actions in relation to others actions.
- Must be very alert and quick to determine callers’ needs and must be able to perform job duties under stressful situations. Must be able to apply critical thinking and decision making skills and provide solutions to complex problems.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Able to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
- English Language – Ability to converse with internal and/or external customers in English.
- Must have basic clerical skills and must be computer literate. Must have legible handwriting.
- Position requires shift work, weekends, holidays, and some overtime required. Working conditions may vary depending on the assigned shift. Subject to on-call during emergencies. Must be able to work a 12-hour shift.
- Northwest Lineman College, System Operator Certification, preferred.
CHELCO’s preferred candidate is an Energy Control Operator but will also consider applications for an Apprentice Energy Control Center Operator.
This one-year apprenticeship is registered with the Department of Veteran Affairs and is eligible for GI Bill Benefits. Get trained for a new and exciting career in Energy today! The Apprentice Energy Control Operator completes on-the-job training while performing the basic duties of the Energy Control Operator.
Apprentice Energy Control Center Operator Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent with at least two years of related experience required and at least six months of experience in telephone/radio communications required. Must be computer literate and be able to use multiple control systems.
The following skills and abilities are also required:
- Must have basic knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
- Must have basic knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunication systems.
- Must be able to listen and communicate information effectively and courteously by radio and telephone.
- English Language – Ability to converse with internal and/or external customers in English.
- Must be able to apply critical thinking skills and provide solutions to complex problems.
