Job Description
The Virginia Department of General Services Division of Real Estate & Facilities Management (DREFM) is a customer-focused organization that provides high-quality surroundings for the roughly 75 state and legislative agencies located within the Capitol Square complex. Facilities Management operates and maintains approximately 4.2 million square feet of space at the Capitol Complex and throughout the metropolitan Richmond area, including office buildings, the State Capitol, the Governor’s Mansion and monuments.
Hiring range: 38,000 – 49,000
We are recruiting for an Electrician. This position ensures the repair, maintenance & preventive maintenance tasks & guidelines are met with the least amount of disruption to building occupants through exemplary customer service. They work in a multi-craft team environment.

Minimum Qualifications
- The selected candidate will have a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license required.
- Considerable experience performing Electrical installation, repair, and maintenance operations.
- Journey level knowledge of the principles and methods associated with electrical installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of electrical distribution systems, equipment and other devices in accordance with NEC electrical code.
- Skill in use of electrical tools and instruments used to install equipment and systems as well as other hand & power tools, gauges, & equipment used in HVAC & electrical trades.
- Ability to troubleshoot, test, diagnose and repair a wide variety of HVAC, electrical, structural, mechanical & plumbing equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, drawings, specifications & operating manuals.
- Ability to work independently as well as a team member. Must have strong communication skills, and able to communicate with various levels of users & occupants of DGS buildings & facilities. Candidate must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
- Basic computer skills required such as email.
- The candidate must be able to lift at least 50 lbs., reach overhead, bend, kneel, and crouch.
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyman level or Masters electrical card is preferred.
