ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Donor Engagement Manager reports to the Development Operations Manager and works on a variety of donor engagement activities in support of advancing major donor fundraising strategies for the Massachusetts Chapter. The Donor Engagement Manager is a critical link between Marketing/Communications and Development, bridging engagement and communications strategies from major donors to members in Massachusetts. Additionally, they will provide high level administrative support to the Massachusetts Director of Development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partnering with the development team, create and execute an annual, comprehensive plan for Massachusetts donor engagement and stewardship.
- Collaborate with the Development team to meet event, donor discovery, stewardship and engagement goals and evaluate return on investment. Plan and execute events and tailor follow up.
- Proactively identify and create special engagement and stewardship opportunities to support building a pipeline of new major donors.
- Coordinate and create donor collateral such as videos, photobooks, presentations, cards and invitations, and e-blasts.
- Maintaining an Engagement and Communications calendar.
- Plan and execute stewardship for Massachusetts Legacy Club members.
- Use TNC’s fundraising management system (BBCRM) to produce donor lists, enter engagements, and perform analysis.
- Provide administrative support to the Director of Development (DoD) including travel arrangements, calendar management, processing expenses, logistics/production of donor meetings and short-term project management as needed. Communicate on behalf of the DoD with staff across the Conservancy; as well as with donors, vendors, and business relations. Support the DoD in managing stewardship plans for their top donors.
- Partner with fundraising, marketing, and conservation staff to stay current on conservation strategies and messaging.
- Coordinate and distribute donor communications and marketing collateral.
- Track internal and external fundraising, events, and stewardship best practices to improve Massachusetts donor engagement.
- Additional duties as needed.
SCOPE
- Engage with trustees, staff, donors, and vendors. Act independently on assigned tasks and exercise independent judgment based on analysis and experience.
- Apply established processes and practices and may create new ones to improve overall team effectiveness.
- Coordinate projects with several variables, work within a defined timeline and budget.
- Communicate and/or distribute information to assist staff in making decisions, solving problems, and improving workflow.
- Does not supervise any staff, but may supervise interns, volunteers, and/or temporary staff.
- Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures, and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements.
- Financial responsibility includes working within a budget, processing invoices and transfers, and contracting with vendors.
- Travel and work flexible hours as needed.
- Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
- Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience building relationships with staff, customers or similar.
- Experience generating reports and interpreting data.
- Experience in business writing, editing, and proofreading.
- Experience working across teams.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with high-level event planning and execution.
- Ability to write and edit written materials for use with donors, members, and special events.
- Ability to set priorities, manage diverse activities, and meet deadlines.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign or other graphic design software.
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- Interest and ability in incorporating a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens when communicating and decision-making.
- Ability to implement processes and strategic program goals.
- Ability to coordinate projects and work under pressure.
- Ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results.
- Experience with database administration and spreadsheet software, including managing, tracking and analyzing data.
- Strong organization skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Experience working with virtual colleagues and teams.
- Experience, coursework, or other training in fundraising principles and practices.
- Demonstrated experience using diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships.
