Mothers Out Front builds our power as mothers to ensure a livable climate for all children. We are growing a multi-racial, cross-class, intergenerational movement of mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers dedicated to convincing elected officials and business leaders to work for a swift, complete, and just transition away from fossil fuels to clean and renewable energy. We know that mothers have an important role to play in the climate justice movement, and, when it comes to protecting children, mothers are an unstoppable force for change. Our goal is simple: to enable mothers to take active leadership in climate justice work by providing the structure, training, and tools for them to work together and win campaigns in their communities, cities, and states.

 

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as the Director of Operations. As the Director of Operations, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of our organization, building a supportive and equitable team culture, and helping Mothers Out Front live our values and achieve our mission. This is an opportunity for you to use your expertise in operations, people management, and culture building to shape an impact-oriented climate justice organization committed to building mothers’ power and driving positive change.
What You’ll Do

  • Be an active contributor of thought leadership and organizational leadership, bringing innovative ideas, insights, and strategies to our overall approach to operations; organizational systems, processes and tools; people management; and team culture.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring effective coordination across teams.
  • Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and systems to enhance equity, transparency, accountability, staff retention, and to effectively achieve our mission.
  • Monitor and evaluate organizational performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies for optimization.
  • Working with the organizational leadership and our external accounting firm, develop and manage the organization’s annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability and alignment with goals.
  • Lead all aspects of finance and accounting including outsourced accounting function, PEO, payroll, benefits administration, accounts payable and receivable, contracts, and vendors. Manage the audit and 990 and perform cash management to optimize interest earned on cash reserves.
  • Oversee technology, systems, and hardware, guiding the Operations staff  in decision making, maintenance, and training plans to ensure our team has all the necessary tools to win.
  • Work with organizational leaders to hire key roles, supervise, and mentor staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Serve as a primary driver of team culture improvements, actively promoting equity and diversity within the team.

 

What You Will Need

  • Experience: At least 10 years of operations-related experience – particularly human resources, finance, and/or technology – including at least 5 years experience managing operations teams or departments. Experience in a nonprofit setting preferred.
  • Management: Demonstrated experience managing teams or departments, with a proven track record of exceptional leadership and team building. Strong project management skills, coupled with sharp attention to detail, and a demonstrated ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Strong Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Operations approach: Proven ability to solve complex organizational problems with a focus on equity and empathy. Experience with HR policies and benefits, organizational systems and processes, tools and technology, and other solutions. Innovator with a growth mindset who centers staff experience and has a passion for building exceptional work environments.
  • Interpersonal skills: Proven track record of building relationships and engaging effectively with people from a variety of ethnic, racial, socio-economic, educational, linguistic, and religious backgrounds, as well as people of various physical abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and generations. Demonstrated self-awareness about how your identities may influence how you show up, interact with, and are perceived by others.
  • Commitment to social justice, diversity, and inclusion: Demonstrates a strong commitment to social justice and actively works to dismantle systems of oppression, including racism, sexism, misogyny, classism, ableism, homophobia, xenophobia, and other forms of discrimination. Location: Mothers Out Front is a fully remote organization. Candidates can be based anywhere in the U.S. and will work from a home office. This is a full-time position.

 

Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this role is $106,000 – $126,000, depending on experience. Benefits include 100% employer covered health, vision, and dental coverage for employees and their dependents, a 401(k) plan, flexible spending plan, paid vacation, holidays, sick days, and support for remote work set-up.
