Position Summary:

The Cyber Range Director is responsible for the day-to-day administration and operational oversight of the Bridgewater State University Cyber Range. In partnership with the Dean of the College of Continuing Studies, Vice President of Information Technology, academic leadership, and Cyber Trust Massachusetts, the Director will ensure the range is maximizing its intended value to provide hands-on cybersecurity training for students, non-profits, and private business.

This is an exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Essential Duties:

• Work with university partners to build and maintain a strong customer base of non-profits, municipalities, education, government, and for-profit businesses to ensure the cyber range reaches a large audience (>500 outside learners per year) and provides its intended value and drives new and repeat usage of the cyber range.
• Assist faculty and instructors with incorporating cyber range scenarios and/or labs into courses, ensuring a high degree of hands-on content is available to all cybersecurity and related courses.
• Develop revenue-generating programming for the range with activities such as corporate team training, industry professional development training, or use by cyber advisory professionals with their client.
• Work with the Center for the Advancement of STEM education to develop free and revenue-generating programming for K-12 populations.
• Manage the daily business operations of the Cyber Range facility including student and attendee scheduling, event planning, reporting, billing, and maintenance contracts.
• Responsible for end-to-end budget administration including forecasting, procurement, and revenue projections.
• Responsible for the creation and implementation of cyber range strategic plan in close partnership with the Dean, Vice President of IT, relevant academic areas, and Cyber Trust Massachusetts to ensure the range and its facility are operating to its fullest potential.
• In partnership with CyberTrust Massachusetts, the cyber range provider, design a portfolio of cyber range training services that can be provided to a diverse set of customers including non-profits, private business, municipalities, military, K12, and other higher-education institutions.
• In partnership with CyberTrust Massachusetts and the relevant academic areas, research, recommend, and implement enhancements to maximize usage and user experience. Examples include recommending new content and providing user feedback on scenarios, labs, and competitions.
• Plan and host various in-person and virtual cyber range events including tours, promotional events, and cyber competitions.
• Work with university partners, CyberTrust Massachusetts, and community and industry organizations to develop programming designed to reach underserved populations and diversify the cybersecurity workforce.
• Present at conferences or other events to generate awareness and to market usage of the cyber range.
• Hire, schedule, and coordinate cyber range instructors as needed for in-person or remote live fire scenarios.
• Serve as a mentor to BSU cybersecurity students working as interns or professional apprentices.
• Maintain awareness of emerging industry security technologies, technology issues, regulatory issues and practices
• Additional responsibilities as directed by the Dean of Continuing Studies consistent with rank and position.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree with commensurate experience to fulfill position responsibilities.
• Minimum of 5-years prior work experience as a cybersecurity professional required.
• Experience building and maintaining strong customer relationships.
• Event scheduling and planning experience required.
• Budget planning and administration required.
• Demonstrated proficiency and strength in verbal, written, and presentation skills with ability to effectively interact with diverse internal and external constituents.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people of varying technical ability required.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially in a team environment required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree preferred
• Demonstrated experience working in cyber range platforms. Experience with Cyberbit preferred.
• Experience working in a cyber Security Operations Center (SOC) preferred.
• Marketing and advertising experience preferred.
• Cybersecurity technical certifications (i.e., CISSP, CEH, Security +) preferred.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong vendor relationship management skills preferred.
• Knowledge of higher education principles, practices, and procedures preferred.
