Job Description
Founded in 1936, the National Wildlife Federation (NWF or Federation) is America’s largest and most trusted grassroots conservation organization with 52 state/territorial affiliates and more than six million members and supporters, including hunters, anglers, gardeners, birders, hikers, campers, paddlers, and outdoor enthusiasts of all stripes. The Federation’s mission is to unite all Americans to ensure wildlife thrive in our rapidly changing world through programming focused on conserving wildlife, restoring habitats and waterways, expanding outdoor opportunities, connecting children with nature, and addressing the causes and consequences of climate change.
To support our mission, we are seeking a Director of Corporate Philanthropy & Engagement to lead our fundraising efforts within the corporate sector, primarily focusing on securing philanthropic support and sponsorships. As a senior staff member responsible to the Chief Development Officer, you will partner closely with leadership across Philanthropy, Conservation & Education Programs, and Marketing & Innovation in driving cross departmental collaborations aimed at administering a range of corporate partnership initiatives and relationships.
This position may be based in our Reston, VA or Washington, DC office. We are also open to a remote work situation and candidates may be able to work from any of our regional offices across the country.
In this role you will:
Lead a corporate engagement and fundraising program aimed at securing philanthropic support and investment in the Federation’s conservation priorities.
Serve as primary “relationship manager” for a select portfolio of corporate partners, nurturing and stewarding these relationships and endeavoring to deepen and expand their engagement with the Federation over time, while also dedicating sufficient bandwidth to the identification and cultivation of prospective new partners.
Partner with Philanthropy’s leadership team, principally the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director of Foundation & Government Relations, and the Associate Vice President for Individual Giving to coordinate and harmonize team efforts, guiding and informing the development and implementation of corporate engagement strategies in collaboration with various staff and offices.
Prioritize key actions for the President & CEO; the Chief Development Officer; and others, including the vice presidents, regional executive directors, and senior program staff, offering guidance and counsel in the engagement of existing corporate partners and the cultivation of prospective new partners.
Build collaborative relationships with staff across the organization, serving as a knowledgeable and accessible resource, and as a primary point of contact for the Executive Office, Finance, Legal, and operations staff in the engagement of corporate partners.
Convene and cohost regular prospect review and information sharing sessions with key internal partners and teams that aimed at identifying the best path forward in navigating new and existing partnerships and the best possible outcomes for the Federation.
Serve as lead architect of the Federation’s Moves Management process for corporate partners, establishing efficient systems and protocols aimed at further building healthy prospect pipelines. Consistently and accurately maintain data relating to assigned portfolios. And staff the organization’s corporate vetting team, convening the group as needed to review discovery information and profiles compiled by agency partners for the purpose of advising the CEO about potential relationships.
Establish annual work plans and revenue targets in close collaboration with Philanthropy’s senior leadership team. Analyze performance metrics and monitor progress toward goals, fine-tuning strategies and implementation timelines as necessary. Evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and use these insights to inform continuous improvement. Promote data-driven decision making.
Administer the corporate team’s budget, shepherding its development and planning. Monitor and evaluate revenue and expenditures. Prepare monthly financial analyses and trimester reports.
Oversee engagements with agency partners, consultants and contractors.
Endeavor to stay current and abreast of innovative fundraising methodologies and strategies. Foster a deep knowledge of industry trends and best practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
