Room to Grow is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the vision that one day all parents will have the resources they need to unlock their families’ potential and become champions for babies and their community. Its mission is to offer structured parent support, material goods, and community connections to support parents as they activate their natural strengths and expand their knowledge, so children thrive from the start. Room to Grow was founded in New York in 1998 and expanded to Boston in 2005, currently partnering with over 1,500 families with an annual budget of $7M and a team of 53 passionate and dedicated staff members.
Room to Grow uses a two-generation, preventative, and strengths-based approach to engage families. Through its unique program, parents and caregivers partner with program staff to develop strategies to support their child’s development, select the material items that their child needs, and connect with community resources that can expand their support network. Room to Grow program staff work alongside parents and caregivers as they build upon their existing skill sets and parenting styles and promote the well-being of their children and family.

Position Summary
Room to Grow is in an exciting period of growth and seeking a Coordinator of Development to join the External Engagement team. Room to Grow’s External Engagement team leads the organization’s fundraising efforts, marketing and communications and community engagement. Reporting to the Chief External Engagement Officer, the Coordinator of Development will be a trusted and integral partner and support individual giving, institutional giving and special events. Requiring organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility, the Coordinator will actively contribute to the development and implementation of organization-wide fundraising efforts.
This is a hybrid full-time position based in NYC.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide administrative support for the Chief External Engagement Officer including: scheduling meetings, calendar and contact maintenance, meeting preparation and follow up, among additional responsibilities
- Draft and edit written materials including letters, talking points, briefings, presentations, personalized donor acknowledgements and other correspondence as needed
- Support operational aspects of the External Engagement team which includes SalesForce entry, donor acknowledgements, financial reconciliation and other financial and donor reporting
- Contribute to the creation and implementation of targeted campaigns, development mailings, and other solicitation (i.e. Annual Appeal, Annual Report) including but not limited to preparing mailing lists and executing physical mailings
- Conduct prospect and current donor research; assist with pipeline development and management
- Assist with special events planning, preparation, and execution
- Respond to inquiries and requests by phone, email and social media channels as needed
- Partner with other departments in order to maximize fundraising efforts and enhance work across the organization including maintaining up-to-date knowledge of program activities, impact, outcomes, and needs
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
- A passion for the mission, vision, and core values of Room to Grow
- 2-3 years experience in office administrative support, development, or project management is preferred, all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply regardless of years of experience.
- Prior nonprofit work experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to adjust course as needed and thrive in a nimble, fast-paced, and flexible organizational culture
- An exceptionally high level of integrity, accountability, and judgment
- Action-oriented, proactive, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to work
- Familiarity with Salesforce is preferred, but not required
- Ability to travel within the US (5-10%)

Fundraising and External Engagement – Allows a candidate to achieve fundraising goals as well as serve as an effective ambassador and thought leader for Room to Grow, establishing deep relationships with a diverse range of external stakeholders. A successful candidate:
- Supports with fundraising for Room to Grow in all forms including annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, and donor communications
- Possesses excellent communication skills that support with the cultivation of stakeholder relationships, ranging from in-kind donors to institutional funders
- Takes initiative to fill in unforeseen gaps regarding internal organization, event/campaign planning, and/or special event execution
Operational Focus – Enables a candidate to efficiently and effectively fulfill their responsibilities while maintaining Room to Grow’s high level of professionalism and integrity to the program. A successful candidate:
- Approaches work with a high degree of detail orientation and accuracy, ensuring that all deadlines are met and that the smallest task is not forgotten
- Maintains organization skills necessary to support all stakeholders and to implement operational processes
- Possesses customer service skills, the ability to anticipate organizational or stakeholder needs and respond to them in a timely and courteous way
