Full-Time Development and Partnerships Manager

Bellwether – Posted by Bellwether Recruiting Anywhere

Job Description

Use your writing, research, managerial, organizational, and analytical chops to expand Bellwether’s reach!

We are seeking a Development and Partnerships Manager to support Bellwether’s external relations (XR) efforts in development and writing for a philanthropic audience as well as grant budget and metric management. This role is remote and flexible, enabling us to hire the best person for the role, regardless of geography.

About Bellwether

Bellwether is a national nonprofit that exists to transform education to ensure systemically marginalized young people achieve outcomes that lead to fulfilling lives and flourishing communities. We work hand in hand with education leaders and organizations to accelerate their impact, inform and influence policy and program design, and share what we learn along the way.

Bellwether’s XR team leads development and communications efforts internally and creates public-facing materials that resonate with a diverse array of stakeholders, including policymakers, donors, advocacy organizations, and school leaders.

Our Core team ensures that Bellwether is a sustainable, inclusive organization where staff members are supported to do their best and most impactful work.

Our Policy and Evaluation practice conducts analyses that inform leaders, organizations, and the broader field on ways to improve their work for America’s underserved students. We produce quantitative and qualitative analyses of contemporary education issues, conduct traditional and innovative evaluations, and generate new ideas and solutions for the sector. We offer recommendations to improve outcomes for underserved youth across the pre-K, K-12, and post-secondary landscape that are informed by rigorous analytical methods; our extensive understanding of the local, state, and federal policy landscape; and our experience working with a wide range of educational and early childhood systems, leaders, and practitioners.

Our Strategic Advising practice is deeply experienced in supporting educational organizations — districts, states, charters, nonprofits, and foundations — to develop ambitious but achievable plans to increase their impact on underserved students. We advise leaders and organizations on their most pressing strategic and operational issues. Our work ranges from supporting entrepreneurs through business plan development to partnering with established organizations on growth and performance improvement to assessing new opportunities for impact as the field evolves. We develop highly actionable plans that leadership teams own and run with.

Responsibilities

The Development and Partnerships Manager will work closely with the XR team and Bellwether project managers to write grants, source and secure new funders for Bellwether’s work, manage our grants/prospects pipeline, and ensure we’re accurately measuring impact. The Development and Partnerships Manager will serve a coordinating “hub” role across Bellwether teams and should be comfortable with details, competing deadlines, and managing up. This is a first-of-its-kind position within Bellwether and is an opportunity to shape our XR work moving forward through seeding new philanthropic revenue support and developing new systems for a fast-growing, dynamic education nonprofit. This position will report to the Senior Director of External Relations and collaborate with leaders across the organization.

In this position, you should expect to:

  • Support the growth of our philanthropically funded pipeline of work to broaden our impact on the field. Conduct funder research and develop strategy to build funder databases and enable issue experts to grow relationships with potential funders.
  • Support and/or lead seeding new philanthropic strategies, potentially including individual and corporate giving.
  • Write broadly for a funding and prospective client audience via grant reports, funder and marketing collateral, concept papers, and pitch decks.
  • Lead our organizational efforts to track impact metrics so that we can tell our story to funders and the field.
  • Manage our pipeline of partnership opportunities (e.g., conference proposals and speaking engagements) in alignment with Bellwether’s strategic plan to broaden our field impact with key audiences.
  • Support budgeting for grant-funded projects.
  • Manage our workflow processes and grant-reporting pipeline via Salesforce, including ensuring all budgets and paperwork are up to date and liaising with our finance and project teams to ensure we’re communicating promptly with funders.
  • Support team training and internal communications related to development and funder outreach as well as ongoing codification efforts of a fast-growing team.
  • Liaise with foundation staff to ensure fidelity to grant terms.

Qualifications

Bellwether is a good fit for a mission-driven professional with strong personal drive, motivation, and strong personal drive and motivation. The Development and Partnerships Manager is someone with a resourceful, responsible, tenacious, independent, and self-confident attitude who builds trust, rapport, and camaraderie with colleagues.

Excited? We are, too. You should apply if you have:

  • A passion for and commitment to transforming education to ensure systemically marginalized young people achieve outcomes that lead to fulfilling lives and flourishing communities in the United States.
  • An understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • At least four to seven years of relevant experience (e.g., development/giving, grants management, technical writing, and/or marketing and communications).
  • A strong eye for detail and accuracy, particularly in budgeting and budget management, and a systems-oriented mindset to build centralized databases for grant information.
  • A solid understanding and awareness of trends in the U.S. education sector and in philanthropic giving.
  • An ability to work on many projects simultaneously and to manage up and across an organization.
  • Strong written and oral communications to help Bellwether tell our story of impact.
  • Professionalism and discretion.
  • A well-rounded interpersonal skill set; an ability to work effectively in team environments while building and maintaining relationships internally and with external stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and good humor while keeping our organizational and field North Stars in mind.

Compensation

The base salary range for this role for incoming team members is $65,025 to $70,762 annually. While the final offer amount will be determined by multiple factors — including previous experience and content knowledge — and may vary from the listed range, Bellwether is committed to transparency and all offers are aligned with our compensation philosophy.

Bellwether provides an attractive benefits package that includes a performance bonus based on individual and organizational success, health care coverage, and a 401(k) plan with an employer-matching contribution policy.
