Job Description
Maxable is a full-service design marketplace that breaks down the barriers and complexity of Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) development, making it possible for every homeowner to explore this process. Maxable offers a wide range of resources and services, including free online planning tools, articles, educational webinars, site evaluations, and an award-winning ADU design team. Maxable educates homeowners so they know what’s possible on their property, and makes sure they’re connected to the right resources to make their project a reality. After preparing homeowners with the knowledge they need, our design team and extensive partner network works with homeowners to bring their ADU to life from pre-design consultation through construction.
Job Title: Designer
The Designer will provide support to the design team and production staff to successfully design ADU-related projects. The Designer will utilize drawings to implement designs for these projects, and core responsibilities will include the following:
- Support the drafting production of plans for projects as directed/redlined by the Design Project Lead
- Assist in establishing and maintaining project schedules, files, and folders as needed for project management
- Support the production of measure sheets for use at initial site measurements
- Prepare drawings at various stages of the design process
- Perform initial site measures with Design Project Lead
- Conduct research on zoning laws, local building department requirements (FAR, setbacks, etc) needed to inform project parameters
- Assist in completing permit application packages and support Design Project Lead in responding to comments during the plan check process
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Skills:
- Experience working on a project team and capable of detailing and producing construction documents in Revit with minimal supervision.
- Experience using Lumion, Adobe Creative Suite, and AutoCAD required. Experience with G Suite preferred.
- Knowledge of materials, construction techniques, and building codes relevant to residential construction.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
- Must be detail-oriented and able to complete projects in a timely manner.
- Enjoy being part of a team and working well with others (both internal and external customers).
- Adaptable/flexible – able to adjust to rapidly changing priorities and able to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously with a professional and positive demeanor.
Experience/Qualifications:
- 2-4 years: Residential design & drafting, ADU experience preferred
- Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited architecture program
Job Type: Full-time (non-exempt) position for 40 hours per week without pre-approval, additional work on pre-approval from supervisor and HR manager
- Compensation: $60,000 annual salary, benefits include health, vision, & dental insurance coverage as well as paid time off with a generous holiday calendar
- Days in La Mesa office: 4-5 days a week coordinated with supervisor, as is appropriate and safe under COVID-19 local government guidance. Other days or work arrangements may be coordinated with approval from the Design Project Lead.
