Full-Time Design Director
Job Description
What you will be doing:
- Lead Projects
- Work collaboratively with client and project teams to successfully deliver exceptional experiences that engage, inspire, and delight (5-10 projects per year).
- Guide the week-by-week project plan to ensure everyone is clear on goals, activities, and effort.
- Facilitate kickoffs, team reviews, client meetings, and workshops, providing a consistent voice, and setting the bar for facilitation, presentations, storytelling, and cheerleading the team as they present their work.
- Regularly review the work (strategies, journey maps, concepts, wireframes, prototypes, visual designs, research plans, etc), provide ideas and feedback, encourage your team to put forward brave ideas and push past expected solutions to make something you love.
- Find opportunities to bring in new perspectives by getting the larger Blink team involved in key elements in our process, including research pilots, concepting sessions, design charrettes, and visual sketching.
- Uncover opportunities within your accounts for additional work.
- Manage Designers
- Manage up to 5 direct reports (junior, mid-level, senior designers), keeping them happily progressing in their career.
- Conduct regular check-ins.
- Mentor them in a variety of design craft, creative problem-solving, communication skills (e.g. divergent thinking, prototyping, interaction design, storytelling).
- Find opportunities to celebrate and recognize them.
- Advocate for them during project resourcing.
- Guide Our Practice
- Contribute to leadership activities across our design and research practice.
- Participate across Blink’s design practice including brainstorming sessions, cross-team critiques, design team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Help evolve our practice by providing input on delivery topics and challenges.
- Shepherd Blink internal initiatives and collaborate with other senior staff members to make Blink even better. Find opportunities to champion an inclusive culture where people feel respected, creative, and empowered.
What we are looking for:
- 10+ years of experience in product, interaction, software, or UX design.
- Clear, open, honest communication.
- A keen eye for detail.
- Top-notch design craftsmanship, and ability to articulate the whys and hows of user-centered design methods.
- Ability to guide some research tasks including writing session guides, conducting user interviews, and moderating usability sessions.
- An openness for rigorous critique — giving and receiving feedback with optimism, clarity, and calm.
- An interest in emerging tech, the latest creative tools, and burgeoning design trends.
- An ability to work collaboratively, both in person and digitally.
- Ability to be authentic, credible, and persuasive with our team and in client meetings.
- Be an advocate for the team and committed to team success.
