Corporate Services offers a challenging and stimulating variety of work in both delivery and support teams. The function utilises the expertise of eight specialisms that collectively enable the operational day-to-day running of the business to ensure that DE&S/SDA delivers its objectives and maintains compliance with the requirements of being part of a Department of State. We cover: Business Support; Comms, Media & Marketing; Infrastructure & Estate Management; Policy Profession; Sales & Disposals; Occupational Health, Safety & Environment; Quality Management; and Security.
As a Business Manager you can expect a challenging, broad and varied role which will test your stakeholder management, analytical and business skills. The role will stretch your communication skills, problem solving ability, your decision making and management of resources and your strengths in working autonomously.
You will work with a range of contacts both internally to DE&S, the wider MOD and external customers and companies. You may be required to be the face of a designated principal, representing them in meetings and conferences. You will be responsible for researching and analysing information, making recommendations and developing plans of action to enhance the corporate delivery across the business and be tasked with complex problems which may need regulatory / policy awareness and dictate the correct resolution. As a part of this role you may directly manage a team with responsibility for their delivery occasionally with budget responsibility.
To be successful in this role, you will need to show you will be able to use your experience in pro-actively developing and progressing the Corporate Services Function to improve the service delivery across DE&S.
Vacancies are currently available across both organisations. If successful, you may be assigned to either DE&S or SDA depending on your skillset and our business needs.
Responsibilities
As a Business Manager you will deliver the day-to-day provision of business support services to organisations or geographic areas.
You will be responsible for;
• Support senior Business Managers with change implementation including liaising with other areas of the business to coordinate business change implementation activities
• Assist in engaging with stakeholders and other functions within their area of responsibility and relevant third parties to support the delivery of business services throughout their area of responsibility
• Support in the production of a variety of documentation, including business cases, reports and clearance documentation
• Analyse corporate reporting and management information, acting on key findings within
• Manage internal and external queries on various issues (e.g. accommodation issues) by providing advice and assistance where required. Escalate more complex issues to senior staff to ensure they are resolved
• Manage a small administrative team, providing coaching and developmental dialogue where appropriate
• Work in a small team responsible for the delivery of certain business support services within their area of responsibility, to meet agreed catalogue of services at agreed customer service standards.

• Evidence of being proactive – Identifying & implementing business improvements
• Experience in building business relationships
• Excellent IT Skills, proficient use with the suite of Microsoft Office applications
It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• NVQ Level 4 diploma in Business Administration, Customer Service or equivalent qualification
• Experience of working in business support
• Prior management experience
• Experience working in a large or complex organisation
