About the Role

Customer Compliance Group (CCG) ensures that HMRC successfully collects the full and correct amount of money due from UK taxpayers, investigates offences against the tax system and takes action to identify and mitigate potential threats.

This is a chance to innovate in a role that plays a key part in keeping Customer Compliance Group (CCG) safe. This position will support the CCG Director of Finance and Planning through leading the delivery and assuring of a high-quality risk, assurance and performance programme for Customer Compliance Group.

This is a broad and high-profile role at the heart of the largest line of business in HMRC and will involve managing stakeholders at the highest level in the Organisation and external bodies. The role manages several teams with interlinked and high-profile responsibilities:

• The CCG assurance team – leading and co-ordinating second line assurance work across CCG including the tax settlement assurance programme for HMRC’s tax assurance commissioner
• The CCG performance team – ensuring the integrity of performance data and providing regular performance reports and briefings to senior leaders to support managing the business and decision making
• The risk and external scrutiny team – ensuring the successful implementation of CCG’s risk maturity action plans, reviewing governance arrangements and maintaining relationships with external scrutiny stakeholders.
 

Role Criteria

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience in developing and maintaining an effective performance measurement framework
    • Demonstrable experience in delivering innovative assurance and risk management activities that improve the control environment
    • Ability to quickly navigate complex relationships with senior leaders in a large, complex organisation building credibility and trust.
    • Strong experience in a leadership role, with a proactive management style and previous experience of building a supportive, efficient and empowered team.
    • Professional qualification in assurance or finance, or strong compensating experience in these fields in a complex organisation.

    Desirable:

  • Good understanding of the work of CCG within HMRC and the performance framework around compliance activity.
    • Some experience of shaping the strategic direction of an organisation
    • Confident in uncertainty and ambiguity
    • Experience in leading and delivering cross-cutting priorities.
