SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Summary of Responsibilities
The Dean of Instruction – Nursing Programs reports is a first-line supervisor assigned for nursing programs. Provide leadership for assigned educational and training programs, services, and activities that facilitate the education of Lake Washing Institute of Technology students. Supervise and evaluate assigned full- and part-time faculty and support staff. This is a contracted, exempt management position that reports to the Vice President of Instruction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Direct the planning, implementation and operation of the Nursing Programs
• Acquire and maintain national program accreditation for the associate degree nursing program
• Develop and accredit a Baccalaureate in Nursing Program, building on existing program
• Monitor and improve instructional effectiveness; i.e., working with an instructional team establishes individual and program goals and objectives, research and recommend new or modified programs, conduct program reviews, accreditation coordination; encourage and facilitate staff development
• Recommend for hire, orient, train, direct, and evaluate performance of, and, when necessary, recommend plans of improvement, discipline or discharge of subordinate personnel; assist subordinates with difficult employee relations problems; mediate student/instructor conflicts; serve on tenure committees
• Determine faculty instructional assignments; develop quarterly class schedule, and submit to executive vice president for instruction; analyze faculty workload and staff allocations, and determine workload modifications when necessary
• Develop, implement and monitor budgets; i.e., works with instructional staff to develop budget requests, review, approve, and monitor budget expenditures and reallocations for all assigned budgets
• Supervise operation and maintenance of college facilities and equipment in program areas for safe and effective use
• Participate in or supervise various activities or committees related to instructional development including program advisory committees, faculty meetings, college instructional team meeting, college committees and other related activities
• Procure donations and grants; i.e., contact potential equipment and service donors, assist faculty with the development and procurement of federal, state, and private grants
• Implement and interpret policies and procedures; i.e., research and resolve staff inquiries, assure fulfillment of staff and agency contracts, ensure completion of appropriate forms
• Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals and books, and by attending conferences and meetings
• Represent the college in community activities and in business and industry relations; attend selected educational and professional-technical associations for the purpose of linking college programs to these community-based organizations for program development and partnerships; participate in college system professional conferences and in-service activities
• Advise and inform college staff on department matters; identify potential problem areas and make appropriate recommendations; prepare and supervise the preparation of reports for internal and external sources
• Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff; develop and monitor in conjunction with staff annual growth/professional development plans; back up other college staff as necessary
• Assist the executive vice president and other college administrators as necessary; assume and effectively discharge other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• A current, unencumbered Nursing License issued by Washington State or ability to become licensed in Washington State
• A graduate degree in nursing from a nursing education program accredited by a national nursing education accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education and doctoral degree either in nursing or a health or related educational field from a college or university accredited by a national accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education
• Preparation in education that includes teaching adults, adult learning theory, teaching methods, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation, or two years of teaching experience in nursing education that demonstrates this type of preparation;

• Preparation or experience in nursing administration or educational administration; and
• At least five years of experience as a registered nurse including two years of experience in nursing education at the Bachelor’s level
• Educational experience that includes teaching, educational theory and methodology, instructional design and methodology, student evaluation and outcomes assessment; knowledge of contemporary curricular content for allied health education
• Knowledge of national and regional accreditation guidelines; two years teaching in an accredited related program preferred
• Service on behalf of allied health education, the community, and/or the profession
• Demonstrated computer literacy; proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications preferred
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, staff and community from diverse backgrounds
• Excellent communication skills and ability to function as an effective team member

Compensation & Work Schedule Initial salary placement is $10,270 per month. This is a 40-hours per week, exempt position.
