Job Description

Kessel Run is seeking to hire a data architect/Lead Data Engineer to further its mission of building next generation decision support systems for a variety of Air Operations Centers.

Job Overview

The Data Architect/Lead Data engineer helps develop, maintain, test, and evaluate data solutions in support of business goals.  He/She will be able to work with software development teams to develop and evolve data models for an Event Driven Architecture based system-of-systems environment.  Applicants must have experience working with near real-time Event streaming production applications that deal with a complex set of state management scenarios. The ideal candidate will be able to work with application teams on the design and build out of hybrid cloud based event models and state machines, that handle large and complex data sets.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Evaluate business objectives to identify application data schemas and data models
  • Work with product and application teams to identify opportunities to optimize application data integration, focused on efficiency and performance improvements
  • High proficiency in data design to include schema design, database definition, data security, data modeling & query optimization
  • Experience with scripting and programming languages for automating repetitive tasks.
  • Experience building optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.
  • Designs data integrations and data quality framework
  • Designs/Evaluates open source and vendor tools for data lineage
  • Works closely with various portfolio leads and engineering teams to develop strategy for long term data platform architecture.
  • Ability to work with product teams, data scientists, and other stakeholders as well as assist them with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills along with the ability to present technical data and approaches to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desired Skills

  • Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Background designing and developing dashboards and other data products.
  • Experience in designing and implementing data protocols, schemas, and formats

Notes

Data engineers generally have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field and a variety of related certifications such as AWS.  This level of education and certification is not required if the above qualifications are met.

  • You are a U.S. citizen and are eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance (see eligibility requirements here)

This is a Federal civilian service position within the United States Air Force. We are hiring at the equivalent of a GS-14 up to GS-15 level for this position. This means you can expect a base salary of $93,907 to $143,598 multiplied by your locality rate, based on your experience. You can find your locality definition here and see the pay tables for the GS scale here. Our headquarters is located in Boston, MA; for a Boston-based employee, this would translate to a range from $121,243 to $172,500
