DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are looking for a talented Current Product Improvement – System Performance Technical Specialist to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Engine Business in Columbus, IN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
• The position is in the System Performance, Aftertreatment, Controls, and Emissions (SPACE) team, which delivers solutions for system related issues to engine performance, aftertreatment performance, emissions, and on-board diagnostics (OBD) on a variety of on-and-off highway engine platforms in North America. The team is part of the Current Product Improvement organization within the Engine Business Unit.
• The candidate will lead business critical product improvement projects that are within the scope of the SPACE team. The projects typically involve engine control system software and/or calibration changes along with hardware interaction.
• The projects typically require a structured problem-solving and product engineering framework utilizing Six Sigma DMAIC tools, systems engineering, robust analysis of technical, reliability and warranty data trends, and service engineering
• The candidate will function as a local subject matter expert, coach peers for technical direction and application of problem-solving tools or processes, and influence direction on peer engineers’ projects through indirect leadership
• The candidate will have opportunities to lead initiatives to deploy or improve capability of existing tools/processes identified as critical to the department’s success
• The candidate will plan and drive activities for the assigned projects, manage stakeholder expectations and communicate project status to leadership

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
• Strong technical, analytical, critical thinking and leadership skills, and will thrive in a dynamic, cross-functional team-based work environment
• Working knowledge of the diesel engine system with functional depth in atleast one key subsystem such as aftertreatment or air handling. Prior experience delivering emissions compliance, on-board diagnostics or system simulation projects is desirable
• Working knowledge of engine controls, calibrations, engine data acquisition, engine data analysis, engine system simulation, and relevant tools such as Matlab, Simulink, AVL-Concerto, GT-Suite, AVL-Boost, etc
• Experience applying robust problem-solving and design tools such as 7-step problem solving, FTA, FMEA, RCA, etc. Six sigma and/or system engineering certifications are a plus
• Experience:
+ BS in engineering (preferably mechanical) + 7+ years in a related industry
+ MS in engineering (preferably mechanical) + 5+ years in a related industry

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
