Overview:
The National Security Innovation Network (NSIN) is hiring a full-time Creative Design Specialist in Arlington, VA.
About Your New Team:
NSIN is a U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) organization with the mission to build networks of innovators that generate new solutions to national security problems. NSIN does this by building communities of non-traditional defense problem solvers from the academic and venture communities, presenting these communities with national security problems through direct interaction with the DOD, and supporting the further development and transition of these solutions into the DOD. The principal way in which NSIN achieves its mission is through three mutually supporting portfolios of programs: National Service, Collaboration, and Acceleration. NSIN’s Regional Network Team is physically located in more than 35 different locations throughout the United States and is responsible for building the new communities of problem-solvers through which NSIN executes its programs. About Your New Role:
The Creative Design Specialist will design engaging digital and print assets that effectively communicate the benefits of NSIN programs and our mission of growing the defense industrial base. Creative execution of on-brand assets is the core responsibility of your job. In this role you are the chief visual storyteller — taking a project brief and quickly designing effective materials such as brochures, website and social media graphics, PowerPoint presentations, infographics, and other collateral — to recruit participants and program partners, and to inform our stakeholders.
You should also be able to develop PowerPoint templates and support the development of other self-service resources for teammates to create high quality, branded materials on their own.
Ultimately, your goal will be to help ensure NSIN is effectively communicating its mission and the unique value proposition of each program we operate.
The NSIN Communications team is growing and you will be part of a highly collaborative team of six. The Creative Design Specialist reports to the Communications Director and will work closely with all members of the team and with colleagues across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze needs, provide recommendations, and develop and execute appropriate design strategies to achieve business objectives
- Convert conceptual or complex topics into meaningful print or digital products from ideation through final production
- Design graphics for website and social media
- Design high profile presentations and reports
- Provides visual Quality Assurance (QA) Quality Control (QC) of all graphics
What We Are Looking For in a Teammate:
- Minimum of 4 years professional experience
- Bring proven experience combining artistic sensibility and technical skill to drive diverse design projects across platforms
- Proficient with design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite)
- Proficient in MS Office and Google Workspace/G Suite
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal communications skills, including oral and written skills
- Organizational skills
- Strong consulting skills; demonstrated ability to work at all levels of the organization to analyze problems, recommend appropriate solutions
- Experience as both a self-starter working independently, and working within a team that is geographically distributed, to understand requirements and meet the delivery schedule
- Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design, visual design, product design, fine art design or other closely related field is desired
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Agency experience is highly desired. A bonus if you also have video editing experience
