Full-Time Competitive Environment Associate Director

UCB Bioscience – Posted by UCBdenise Washington, District of Columbia, United States

Job Description

To strengthen our I2I G2M Global Insights team within UCB, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of:  Future Competitive Environments Lead

This role studies and articulates the Future in order to help UCB understand, anticipate, prepare for and gain a competitive advantage from coming changes in market dynamics, the healthcare ecosystem and macroenvironment that may impact any or all of the competitive arenas in which we are engaged.  It is not our goal to predict what will happen in the future, but instead to use strategic foresight to describe what could happen in the future and, in some cases, what should happen in the future, so that UCB can plan to maximize the opportunities and minimize potential threats, ultimately enabling UCB to use strategic foresight and futures-thinking to increase patient value.  This individual can be located in any UCB office within the Unites States and Europe.

You like to work in an environment where you can:

  • Be responsible for systems, tools, and processes existing within UCB that deliver future-focused competitive environmental insights and to bring new foresight projects to fruition within UCB.
  • Define excellence in strategic foresight and future-focused competitive intelligence (macro environmental) based upon external benchmarking.
  • Continue the work on future trends and scenarios and their implied strategic issues, and innovating and enhancing these core future frameworks in terms of content and strategic applications and tools.
  • Monitor the external environment to gain deep expertise in strategic foresight techniques, strategic competitive intelligence methodologies, information sources, vendors and bring those forward to the organization

You will contribute by:

  • Working with the existing futures intelligence framework and continually assess it for improvements to enhance and build upon how the Competitive Intelligence Unit delivers insightful, impactful foresight to develop and uphold the strategies that UCB utilizes to create Patient Value.
  • Being responsible for the synthesis of multiple sources in order to most appropriately frame the current and future states and effectively communicate this with appropriate stakeholders. (e.g. monthly pertinent readings for the UCB Board and Executive Committee, input into the annual corporate and business strategic planning processes and enterprise risk management cycles)
  • Implementing appropriate methods to define critical uncertainties and create a vision of potential future states.  Work cross-functionally to identify the most critical uncertainties for UCB and build robust analysis around these specific scenarios.
  • Building external relationships in the area of future healthcare to continue to challenge our internal approaches and thinking.

Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 + years in Futures work and/or Strategic Competitive Intelligence and/or extensive studies in the future environments area
  • Expert knowledge / understanding of foresight/strategic intelligence methodologies and techniques and how these are applied to make business decisions, required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in strategic foresight, business administration, or related field preferred
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams, including influencing without direct authority, in a highly collaborative matrix environment where flexibility and change management skills are needed
  • Strong leadership, presentation, and workshop facilitation skills with the ability to partner and communicate with stakeholders at all levels in the organization
