Position Summary

 

Reporting to the CEO and serving on the executive team, the Chief Operating Officer will drive key financial and administrative functions to ensure that USA Triathlon has the financial and operational model needed to continue the organization’s success and impact. Overseeing and directing the finance and administration of a $18M nonprofit with 68 staff, the Chief Operating Officer will have responsibility for Finance, Administration and Operations including Human Resources, and Strategy & Planning.  The incoming Chief Operating Officer will a proven leader who can actively collaborate with the rest of the organization to establish a clear and positive culture, provide balanced leadership with authenticity, respect for others, high emotional intelligence, flexibility, innovation, collaboration, trust building and integrity.

 

General Duties and Responsibilities

 

Finance Oversight & Development

  • Carry out the strategic management of the accounting, finance, and financial reporting functions
  • Provide leadership and coordination of the organization’s overall financial planning, budgeting, and annual audit/990 process
  • Analyze and interpret financial results and trends
  • Ensure compliance with Unites States Olympic Committee NGB Compliance Standards
  • Serve as leadership to the Board for all financial matters and participates in Board and Finance Committee meetings

Administration & Operations

  • Oversight of the human resources team, including the recruitment, supervision, training, and evaluation of staff
  • Provide leadership that fosters a culture focused on people first mentality, collaboration, growth, and support
  • Oversees office management and technology team and outsourced relationships
  • With the leadership team, works to analyze the organization’s evolving technology needs and builds a strategy based on gaps and needs identified

 

Strategy & Planning  

  • Act as a business partner to the CEO to guide and build value in USAT
  • Guide organizational strategic direction; create dashboards and reporting packages
  • Work directly with the CEO to manage and drive key operational initiatives across the business, ensuring full alignment and accountability across the organization
  • Collaborate with metrics team to develop and track team-wide success metrics

Executive Leadership

  • Attract, develop, coach, and retain high performing team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control, and performance
  • Demonstrate the highest-level financial, administrative, and ethical practices towards the achievement of organizational priorities.

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities  

This position has supervisory responsibilities for approximately 15% of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field from an accredited institution is required
  • A Master’s degree or CPA is preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience, including a minimum of five years of proven leadership
  • Non-profit experience helpful
  • Good organizational, management and communicational skills
  • Proven ability to act as a senior partner and advisor by demonstrating outstanding financial analysis, communications, interpretation, and leadership skills
  • Proven leader that can motivate, manage, and maximize capacity of a team

Additional Job Information

  • Location: Colorado Springs
  • Hiring Pay Range:  $130,000-160,000
  • This is a full time, exempt position
