Full-Time Capacity Planner

JOB FAMILY DESCRIPTION
Provides capacity-planning support services to Black Knight’s Technical Operations & Infrastructure organization, and applications. Requires knowledge of multiple operating systems and hardware platforms. Primary duties include installation and/or support of capacity management tools, detailed capacity analysis, identification of tuni ng opportunities, recommendation of capacity increases, and presentation to various levels of management. Participates in 24×7 rotational on-call support for acute performance issues and capacity-planning job failures.
This position is remote/telecommute eligible. If located in Jacksonville, FL, some onsite may be required.
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Meets commitments and provides excellent customer service at all times with internal and external clients.
* Provides detailed status reports (written and/or verbal) of tasks and difficulties encountered enabling managers to initiate escalation if necessary and assess areas where changes or additional support may be warranted.
* Ensures issues including large tuning opportunities and capital needs for capacity increases are escalated appropriately to management.
* Assists application groups with performance analysis by identifying tuning opportunities and measuring impact of application tuning as well as new application changes and releases.
* Monitors and measures resource consumption (CPU, Memory et al).
* Measures and extrapolates historical growth to predict future trends.
* Works with application teams to understand future growth requirements due to application program changes as well as customer conversions and de-conversions.
* Incorporates all data into a comprehensive capacity forecast.
* Identifies how capacity will be increased along with associated costs and works with appropriate teams to turn capacity forecast into capacity plan.
* Prepares and presents reports on capacity management duties to management.
* Provides daily support for data collection process.
* 24×7 on-call support of data collection process.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL GUIDELINES
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
* Proficiency expected in the use of: WPS(SAS), Microsoft Office Suite, Statistical Principles as they relate to data reduction and projection
* Experience with installation and administration of WPS (or SAS) and MXG software
* Experience with monthly IBM SCRT reporting
* Experience performing ad hoc research, reporting, analysis, models, forecasts, and estimates, for mainframe environments and company applications
* Understanding of Batch Service Level Agreement components and measurement
* Knowledge of SMF-record-type content related to z/OS, RMF, CICS, DB2, I/O Subsystems, Batch, TCPIP, etc.
* Experience with SMF data collection processes and requirements
* Experience with z/OS Workload Manager rules and constructs
* Experience with various capacity planning tools to include Intellimagic, REXX, TSO, ISPF, Omegamon, IBM z/PCR and z/BNA, and Splunk for distributed data preferred
* Experience with RMF Workload Delay Monitor for identification of performance issues
* Understanding of hardware capabilities, components, and configuration values
* Knowledge of IBM Pervasive Encryption preferred
* Demonstrated analytical capabilities and ability to understand and apply technical concepts
* Team skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across technical disciplines, as well as with Operations, Development, and the Business
* Communicates ideas both verbally and in written form in a clear, concise, and professional manner
* Personal commitment to stay current with latest technology concepts
* Ability to analyze and solve problems using learned techniques and tools
Capacity Planner III
Advanced professional role requiring high skill with extensive proficiency. Demonstrated competency of Capacity Planner II role is required. Works independently with only administrative supervision and the ability to overcome major obstacles and recognize early when issues should be escalated or a senior peer needs to be consulted. Wide latitude for independent judgment and is expected to provide guidance to others on the capacity planning staff. Effectively communicates with all levels of technical and non-technical personnel. Ability to negotiate complex processes and issues with others. Contributes to the development, documentation and implementation of capacity planning standards or guidelines. Assigned to the most highly visible, sensitive and critical systems. Typically requires a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in capacity planning.
