Part-Time Book Marketing Strategist
Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION: Strategist
Who We Are: Girl Friday Productions is an international writing, editorial, and book production firm committed to high-quality creative and transformative client relationships since 2006. Trained up in traditional publishing houses, Girl Friday’s team partners with publishers and companies looking for distinctive editorial production and design services, and supports serious self-publishers with top-shelf book publishing and launch plans tailored for the indie direct-to-reader market. We are a tight-knit group based in Seattle and Portland, fueled by our love of books and a belief that the publishing industry should reflect a greater diversity of voices and experiences, and that all creators should be paid for their work.
Who You Are: You’re a smart, engaged thinker who is willing to challenge industry assumptions about how readers discover, purchase, and enjoy books. You firmly believe that “strategy” without deep research is worthless. You know what questions to ask and what tools to use to procure the data that drives smart decision-making. You’re versed in the touchpoints of the digital consumer journey—and you keep that journey at the heart of your strategies. You know how to glean insights and optimize campaigns by listening to your numbers. Your copy is lively and flawless, and you know how to distill your well-thought-out plans into accessible, inspiring presentation decks. You’re excited about the idea of bringing your data-driven skillset to a small, women-owned and -led company that is poised to spearhead a monumental shift in the book publishing industry. And, at the end of the day, you love a good book just as much as we do.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct market research across touchpoints for books in all genres, and develop clear and compelling reader personas to reflect the audience segments
- Build tailored cross-channel launch strategies that consider how to leverage the author’s existing direct market as well as all available on- and offline channels
- Brief functional teams clearly to ensure each partner is guided in the direction that aligns with your strategy
- During internal postmortem meetings, communicate the narrative of the campaign, probing the analytics to develop insightful and actionable steps to evolve our performance
- Experiment with and prepare and present POVs/best practices for existing & emerging platforms and analytics tools
- Prepare and host educational sessions with team to ensure everyone is equipped with the best strategies and learnings
Qualifications:
- 4+ years related experience in marketing either on the brand or agency side.
- Both left and right brain thinker, comfortable with data and creative thinking.
- Client-facing professionalism with an ability to inspire confidence in a consultation role.
- Strong communication skills—both internally and externally, written and verbal. As an editorial agency, it’s crucial that our communications are error free.
- Strong organization skills with attention to detail and excellent follow-through.
- Collaborative, self-driven working style
- BA or equivalent
