About the Job

The candidate will be part of a small team developing multiple-choice test questions for a computer-based national assessment in a technical area related to automobile technology, tools, and shop practices.

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of how to measure knowledge of these concepts and principles via effective item construction using established industry best practices in assessment and item construction. The position requires 25-30 hours of work per week on item development. Must work a minimum of 25 hours per week.

 

  • Establish and fulfill a development schedule to meet deliverable due dates.
  • Make assignments to and review the work of 3-5 subject matter expert test question (item) writers.
  • Synthesize and deliver constructive feedback on test question quality and technical accuracy to writers and editors to support skill development and improve quality of assignment submissions.
  • Review and content edit test questions for accuracy, absence of bias/sensitivity, and adherence to blueprint specifications and best practices in measurement.
  • Review and edit for grammar, punctuation, syntax, style, and format.
  • Within a proprietary online item banking platform, update and maintain content and meta-data.
  • Coordinate with graphic artists to develop and review accuracy and format of images accompanying test questions.
  • Schedule and coordinate work of an independent content reviewer.
  • Implement feedback from the client to achieve final approval.
  • Prepare monthly summary reports to monitor progress toward goals and adherence to test specifications.
  • Perform other test development support duties as required.

 

Requirements and Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in any science field or in education is required.
  • At least two years of middle/high school science teaching, tutoring, or curriculum development experience preferred.
  • Experience using item banking software is preferred.
  • Experience writing and editing multiple-choice test questions for middle school and/or high school level science is preferred.
  • Experience writing and editing multiple-choice test questions for a large-scale educational assessment program highly desired.
  • Proven ability to work independently, follow standard operating procedures, and manage task completion within time constraints.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other relevant applications (SharePoint, Teams).
  • Must have outstanding written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to research, source, and verify factual information using credible online and other sources.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with subject-matter experts, colleagues, and clients.

U.S. citizenship is required for this position based on government contract requirements.

 

The position will be located at a HumRRO office in one of the following cities: Alexandria, VA; Louisville, KY; Monterey, CA; Minneapolis, MN; or San Diego, CA. We offer a hybrid work policy that allows for part-time telework.
