Are you a development professional looking to support a dynamic team in a fast-paced, forward-thinking non-profit organization? The association director of philanthropy – AC & Events will work in partnership with the Financial Development team, community center leadership, and dedicated volunteers to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects and major gift donors.

In this position, you will be able to use your skills for:

Annual Campaign Planning and Execution:

Support the association’s financial development plan and strategies to advance a culture of philanthropy among staff and volunteers.

  • Develop and lead the strategic and operational annual fundraising plan for the Association’s Annual Campaign, annual giving programs, and special annual campaign Initiatives.
  • Responsible for leading Association Annual Campaign and volunteer teams raising $3.0M+ annually.
  • Participate and contribute to the development of multi-year financial development comprehensive strategies that ensure sustainable annual and long-term growth in philanthropic contributions.
  • Conceive and execute plans for acquiring new donors including (but not limited to) through direct mail, e-solicitations, and the use of social media.
  • Develop plans and programs for new annual fundraising initiatives with an eye on reaching specialized constituencies.
  • Manage a small portfolio of high-potential donors.
  • Serve as a liaison for the overall Y community centers development efforts, creating and implementing strategies designed for further engagement and financial support of the Y to advance the mission.
  • Meet regularly with the CEO, lead Financial Development officer(s), Community Center Executive Directors, and Financial Development team to review prospects and develop strategies for Annual Campaign with an eye on major donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • In conjunction with the Community Center Executive Directors and the Lead Financial Development Officer(s), establish the annual funding priorities and goals for the fiscal year.
  • Serve as liaison to the community centers and programs to coordinate annual fundraising strategies, and ensure these strategies are appropriate to the mission of the YMCA.
  • Stay abreast of philanthropic, economic, social, and educational trends related to fundraising; ensure development staff is informed of changes in legislation and other trends and initiatives that might impact the YMCA’s fundraising efforts.
  • Ensure the YMCA’s stewardship of its major donors makes supporting the YMCA a personally fulfilling experience, conveys to donors that the association and its leaders care deeply about its supporters and appreciates what they have done for the Y, and demonstrate the impact their support has on the community.
  • Leverage smart use of data to inform decisions and efficiencies.

Financial Development and Philanthropy – Major Gifts:

Support the Annual Giving Campaign and identified capital campaign strategies for the Association.

  • Support the association financial development plan and strategies to advance a culture of philanthropy among staff and volunteers.
  • Manage a prospect and donor portfolio to attain specific annual goals.
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle — Identifying probable donors, managing a portfolio of existing donors, developing communication and engagement strategies per their interests, and ensure that each major donor has a clear strategy and timeline in the gift cycle. (Moves Management and Donor’s Philanthropic Learning Curve)
  • Personally solicit and steward major donors and prospects ($5K+).
  • Work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development staff, and other leadership to cultivate, solicit and steward donors for YMCA programs.
  • Meet performance measurement through annual giving, major gifts, capital gifts, planned gifts, and/or endowment by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill the Y’s mission.

Financial Development and Philanthropy – Special Fundraising Events:

Oversee, plan and execute key special fundraising events, including:

  • Y Golf for Kids Golf Tournament
  • Center for Community Impact Breakfast
  • Celebration of Philanthropy or other identified events that meet the Ys strategic goals
  • CRT level events that deepen the donors’ commitment to the YMCA mission
  • Legacy Luncheons or other annual engagements of the YMCA’s Legacy Club members and prospects.

Financial Development and Philanthropy – Stewardship:

  • Provide personalized stewardship of major gift donors, ensuring the donors experience high-quality interactions that foster long-term engagement and investment.
  • Work with leadership and community center staff to ensure that significant donors in assigned areas have multi-year solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship plans.
  • Lead and implement strategic donor cultivation and stewardship activities.

Financial Development and Philanthropy:  Management and Administrative responsibilities

  • Maintain assigned donor records and moves management plans for major gifts and campaigns.
  • Participate in fund development-related committees as assigned.
  • Attend community meetings and conferences as Y representative (virtual or in-person).
  • Assist with fundraising events, comprehensive campaign outreach/activities, and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • 5 or more years of experience working on annual giving, major giving/endowment campaigns, or capital campaigns from inception through completion. Preference is given to those with major giving/endowment campaigns or capital campaign experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Adaptable personality and ability to develop harmonious relationships with staff, members, volunteers, and donors.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines, goals, and budgets.
  • Highly organized, possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and independent thinking.
  • Present a professional image and have excellent written, oral, and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to make formal presentations.
  • Aptitude in Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as the ability to use most office equipment, is required. Working knowledge of Blackbaud’s Raisers Edge or SalesForce is preferred.
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on the first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
