Ball State University’s Department of Elementary Education invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction available August 2021.

 

The Department of Elementary Education is committed to preparing educators with the will and skill to serve all students. Using a pedagogy of community engagement, we prepare educators who are culturally responsive, critically conscious, and committed to education for social justice in our democratic society.

 

Among the distinguishing features of a Ball State education are its many immersive learning experiences in which students work in solidarity with community and school partners to address community-identified goals. These experiences include the nationally recognized Schools within the Context of Community program, the Wayne Township Urban Immersion Program, and the Elementary Education Overseas program.

 

Ball State also partners with many dynamic professional groups dedicated to the development of high-quality clinical experiences that link theory and practice in the education of teacher candidates. These include the Clinical Practice Network and University Assisted Community Schools Network, among others. Ball State is also home to the Alliance for Community Engaged Teacher Preparation.

 

Primary responsibilities: include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary education that focus upon theories and practice in teaching and learning with a strong emphasis on social justice; supervising practicum experiences, supervising and conducting research; publishing; partnering with schools and communities; and engaging in professional, university and departmental service.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate by date of appointment in Elementary Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field from an accredited institution; three years of full-time elementary classroom teaching experience obtained concurrently or at any time; demonstrated potential for or record of scholarly productivity as evidenced by refereed presentations at regional, national and/or international conferences; refereed articles, book chapters, books or other publications.

Preferred Qualifications: University teaching experience; record of seeking and obtaining grant funding; knowledge and capability with technologies in education, including online teaching experience; knowledge of recent trends in education as they pertain to culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogies, education for social justice, and educational inequality; experience working with learners with a diverse array of needs, experiences, and backgrounds; experience supervising student teaching; commitment to and experience partnering with schools, families, communities, and/or community agencies; strong collaboration skills.

Ball State University is located in Muncie, Indiana, approximately 45 miles northeast of Indianapolis. Approximately 21,000 undergraduate and graduate students enroll each year in diverse academic programs on and off campus.
