Assistant Lecturer of Media Design

The Department of Journalism invites applications for a one-year, full-time non-tenure-track Assistant Lecturer position available August 2021. The teaching emphasis will be in user-centered experience design, interaction design, graphic design and web design and development.
The ACEJMC accredited Department of Journalism at Ball State University offers undergraduate majors in advertising, public relations, journalism graphics, photojournalism, magazine media, news, and journalism education, as well as graduate programs in journalism, public relations, and emerging media design and development. The department’s innovative curricular approach to advertising and public relations education combined with exceptional co-curricular opportunities and facilities promise to graduate real-world ready professionals for the strategic communication careers of the future. The Holden Strategic Communication Center is the state-of-the-art home to the departmentally supported integrated strategic communication agency, McKinley Ave. The agency works in cooperation with Ball State University’s independent student media including the Daily News (print and online newspaper), Ball Bearings (print and online magazine), NewsLink Indiana (television newscast), and Byte (online entertainment magazine), which are housed in the Unified Media Lab.
Primary responsibilities: The successful candidate should have the ability to teach undergraduate courses in user experience design, usability and user experience research methods, web design, data visualization, interaction design, graphic design, and /or design thinking. The successful candidate should also be proficient in front-end web and mobile design. Knowledge of coding languages is also preferred. Teaching and advising requirements exist at multiple locations.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in mass communication, user experience design, human-computer interaction, media informatics, information systems, computer science, visual communication or related field from an accredited institution by date of appointment.
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications: Three years of professional experience in human-computer interaction, project design and client management, human-centered experience design, strategic communication or a related field; undergraduate-level teaching experience.
