Full-Time Assistant Director, Graduate Admissions & Affairs

Job Description

Position Summary
With responsibilities across admissions and student services, the Assistant Director, Graduate Admissions & Affairs, will participate in the recruitment and selection of the highest caliber graduate students for our post-JD degrees, play an active role in advising incoming and current students, and develop, implement and assess programs that enhance our LLM students’ experience. You also will propose and implement student communication initiatives—including web, email, guides, and presentations—that integrate steps along the journey from application to graduation.

In Graduate Admissions, the Assistant Director reviews and evaluates domestic and foreign education credentials, and participates as a member of the Admissions Committee. You also will represent the Law School and its programs to applicants at virtual and international recruitment events, engaging with alumni globally.

In the Office of Graduate Affairs, you will serve as a critical information resource to students on curricular and co-curricular opportunities; you will advise and counsel them on academic matters, workload strategies, and cultural adjustment. You will interpret, learn, and apply academic policies. You also will develop and help implement programming that fosters community building, and students’ academic success and professional development.

Travel in fall and spring semesters required.

Qualifications

Required

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience: Three years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge: Strong cultural awareness and ability to relate to a wide array of audiences, including to the needs of students from a variety educational backgrounds. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking. Strong analytical abilities, including interpretation and application of policy to individual circumstances. Interest in cross-departmental operations, and proven ability to balance competing priorities. High proficiency in basic office software applications. Working knowledge of information systems and processes.

Preferred

  • Education: Graduate or law degree
  • Experience: Experience working with international students in a graduate or professional school setting. Demonstrated ability to garner trust and confidence among diverse communities, and build relationships among students and alumni.
  • Knowledge: Knowledgeable about legal education and the legal profession. Experience with communication strategy and website design and maintenance. Domestic and foreign travel experience. Fluency in a language other than English. Knowledge of Peoplesoft.
