SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers 10 applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees, and 80 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. LWTech is located within the city of Kirkland, which is home to companies such as GoDaddy, Google, Astronics and EvergreenHealth, and the college is within minutes from Microsoft and Nintendo. LWTech was recognized by the Aspen Institute as one of the top 150 two-year colleges in the nation in 2018 and is proud to be a Military Friendly School. Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking qualified part time instructors to teach in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Design program. Faculty prepare undergraduate students to lead and collaborate with teams of creative and technical professionals. Courses are held in a hybrid format, meeting one evening per week with the balance online.

All instructor positions require two years work experience; college teaching experience and industry certifications are preferred.

This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future part-time faculty vacancies. The college hires part-time faculty on a quarter by quarter basis, dependent on enrollment. If you’re selected for an interview for a potential future vacancy, a college representative will contact you.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Teach a variety of BAS-D related classes, including Brand Communications, Wayfinding, Environmental Graphic Design, Interaction Design and Design Processes
• Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to the program goals of preparing student to lead and collaborate with teams of creative and technical professionals
• Share knowledge of relevant academic theory and industry best practices
• Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments
• Develop and teach to the objectives of the approved curriculum
• Develop and teach lessons which foster and support cultural diversity and non-discrimination
• Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirements
• Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students
• Post the class syllabus and students’ grades via the online course system (currently Canvas)

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in design-related field strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree with significant industry or teaching experience may be considered
• Two years related experience in a design-related field required Creative Direction and Managerial experience required to teach some coursed
• Experience in and commitment to teaching undergraduates strongly preferred
• Online teaching experience using a learning management system (LMS) preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations
• Due to the diversity of the college population, we encourage applicants who are multilingual
• Previous experience with an online course system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle) preferred

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

CompensationPlacement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned the faculty member, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part time faculty salary schedule currently in effect and labeled Appendix B.

Step A ranges from $675.36 – $2.026.08
Step B ranges from $710.74 – $2,132.22
Step C ranges from $775.27 – $2,175.93
Step D ranges from $795.04 – $2,385.12
Step E ranges from $795.04 – $2,385.12
