Full-Time Activities Coordinator

Job Description

This Activities Coordinator position focuses on social and education initiatives, as well as special events. This position will plan, implement, and provide activities and programs through the Oshkosh Seniors Center (OSC) that improve the quality of life for people over the age of 50 in the Oshkosh area. This includes coordinating activities at both OSC facilities and outreach locations. This position will also assist with managing and maintaining the Leach Amphitheater facilities for special events and programs. Work days and hours will vary to accommodate events and facility maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Activity and Program Coordination (35%) Develop and maintain activities and programs as they relate to overall OSC goals. Evaluate all activities and programs at least annually. Provide leadership in areas of activities and program coordination. Develop and oversee activity’s expenditures and revenues. Ensure that volunteers have proper skills and training necessary to perform their duties.
• Leach Amphitheater Management (25%) On-site management during all special events at the facility, including opening and closing facilities for special events and programs. Assist with managing Parks Department events and maintaining grounds. Perform custodial operations and operate concessions. Operate light duty maintenance equipment, trucks, and lawn and landscape equipment. Provide information to the public and event organizers. Provide quality customer service.
• Food Service (15%) Obtain and maintain Food Safety Certification. Oversee preparation and serving of food at OSC per Food Safety Certification guidelines. Maintain proper documentation as required by state food codes. Lead and train volunteer cooking teams in food safety requirements.
• Staff / Team (10%) Work as a team member with other OSC staff. Share information with the OSC Team about activities and programs and information received from evaluations. Assist OSC Team in planning and carrying out fundraising activities; occasionally take lead role in fundraising events. Seek input from other staff in their area of expertise to coordinate comprehensive activities and programs. Lead volunteer team meetings. Assist Volunteer Coordinator in obtaining volunteers for activities and classes.
• Community Resources (5%) Work with community agencies and resources for the provision and coordination of programs and services. Serve on various community committees/focus groups aimed at improving quality of life issues for older adults in Oshkosh.
• Professional Development (5%) Continue to expand knowledge base on needs of older adults and special event coordination by attending appropriate training opportunities.
• Marketing/Media (5%) Develop program and activity information for monthly newsletter. Provide necessary information and assist Marketing Coordinator with promoting activities. Capture video and photos of events.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
• Associate’s Degree in Recreation, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field; Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
• A minimum of two years of experience planning activities for senior adults or in facility management is preferred.
• Food Safety Certification or the ability to obtain within the first six months employment.
• First Aid and CPR training is desired.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Proficient computer skills in Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher.

• Ability to conduct work in a safe manner in accordance with established safety rules and procedures. Capacity to safely operate a variety of equipment, capable of properly and safely lifting equipment, and a variety of heavy objects.
• Ability to ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
• Ability to capitalize on cost saving opportunities and efficiencies

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may at times experience considerable periods of standing/sitting as well as moderate to heavy lifting, pushing and pulling. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, wild animals, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic chemicals. The employee occasionally works near moving objects and is occasionally exposed to risk of loud noises. Working conditions contain moderate risks which require planned safety precautions for limited periods of time. Employee may be subject to inclement weather and/or weather extremes during the discharge of responsibilities.

Physical work may include a variety of large and small equipment, including the use of small tools, lawn maintenance equipment and small tractors.
