About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join and manage the Active Travel Team at the LCRCA.
Are you enthusiastic about increasing access to and participation in walking, wheeling and cycling across the Liverpool City Region? Would you like to make a real difference to how people move around the City Region, support modal shift to sustainable modes and assist with carbon reduction both now and in the future?
As the Active Travel Manager, you will manage a multi-disciplined team that undertake the development and delivery of new infrastructure, collaborating with our constituent local authorities, and funding partners such as Active Travel England. You will also manage a wide range of projects and programmes within the team’s portfolio across the Liverpool City Region with the aim of encouraging and enabling the take-up of active travel and supporting the growth of the City Region’s walking, wheeling and cycling network.
You will help deliver the Metro Mayor’s ambition for walking, wheeling and cycling becoming the preferred ways of travelling shorter distances by the people of Liverpool City Region. You will manage initiatives and projects that will make active travel easier by improving connections between our public transport hubs (like railway stations) and walking and cycling routes, and, in doing so, deliver the mayor’s vision for a London -style, integrated, transport system.
About the person
Our ideal candidate will have proven experience and a passion for active travel and sustainable transport, supported by a degree in a relevant subject. You will be able to demonstrate the skills required to manage the team and to ensure that the LCRCA can deliver on its ambitions set out in both its Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) and forthcoming Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4).
Required skills and knowledge:
- – A degree level or equivalent professional/vocational qualification in a relevant discipline, e.g. Geography, Transport Planning, Economics, Civil Engineering with strong relevant experience at this level.
- – Experience of procuring and managing external consultants and contractors preferably in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- – Knowledge of up-to-date issues relating to Sustainable Transport / Active Travel agenda with specific reference to recent DfT and government guidance.
- – Ability to communicate with members of the public, colleagues, Senior Officers, local Council Members and CA Members.
