Salary Range: $63,852 – $77,316

  

Essential Functions and Objectives:

 

Responsible for the day to day stability of a specific unit within the department. Directs and monitors the work effort of others to ensure the team operates smoothly and efficiently.

Responsible for the financial statement presentation of the District. Prepares, reviews, and analyzes financial statements and disclosures, internal reporting to senior management, monthly review analytics of funds, and Single Audit review. Responsible for deliverables required as part of the quarterly and annual financial statement audits, including analytics and preparation and review of supporting schedules. Directly supervises staff and works closely with internal and external departments and customers.

Ensures completion of daily activities; directs and supports the team’s work efforts, maximizes productivity and achieves short term goals. Improves the team environment; plans, evaluates, and guides the behaviors of direct reports.

Decides how work gets completed, based on what work is prioritized by management. Sets the team up for success by establishing: goals, action plans, deadlines, and standards. Tactfully assigns work to the team according to aptitude, skills, work load and interests.

Closely tracks efforts to confirm work is performed according to standards; checks progress, evaluates accuracy, discovers deviations and identifies solutions.

Leads and influences the team’s best work by serving as an escalation point, solving routine problems, preventing conflicts, and giving direct feedback. Provides instruction and guidance to ensure full understanding of designated activities.

Provides ongoing opportunities to help improve daily work skills; educates new team members, hosts meetings, mentors, and allows showcase of strengths. Ensures compliance with district by implementing and enforcing standard practices and procedures.

Maintains a close relationship and regularly discusses workload and deadlines with the team. Report status to team members and managers, including cost, scope, quality, time, performance, and output to create a positive team atmosphere and keep everyone informed.

SUpervises the preparation of the District’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and Single Audit to include performing necessary procedures for year-end reporting and preparing audit schedules for assigned funds.

Researches and provides general customer service and explanations regarding complex or quantitative analysis to others related to accounts, ledgers, funds, and general accounting methodology.

Establishes and maintains procedures for accounting for assigned funds and projects and performs accounting tasks pertaining to the general ledger, debt issuance for capital projects, and grant accounting.

Reviews the reconciliation of District bank accounts and balance sheet accounts, including researching and correcting discrepancies between District records and other sources.

Reviews roll forward schedules for cash, debt and grant related activities; reviews, researches, and prepares original journal entries to record financial data in the general ledger and sub-ledgers as deemed necessary, including investments and wires; and reviews journal entries submitted by other District departments, researches and revises as necessary.

Performs budget to actual reconciliation and analysis.

Researches and documents recommendations on governmental accounting standards, new pronouncements, and proposed accounting treatments.

Supervises, directs, and motivates various accounting roles.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

Five (5) or more years of experience in Accounting, CPA firm, Capital Project or Public Sector accounting setting.

Two (2) or more years of experience in accounting for and reconciliation of grant and general ledger projects, Single Audit production, and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) production.

Two (2) or more years of experience researching authoritative sources and drafting cogent recommendations for accounting treatments.

Two (2) or more years of experience in project leadership.

Experience with Continuous Improvement initiatives preferred.

One (1) or more years of management responsibility.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA Candidate.

High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.

Ability to perform highly accurate, easily auditable work and meet strict deadlines.

Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner.

Ability to lead a team, provide guidance, and delegate work to others.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization.

Ability to work effectively in a team setting.

Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment with district and school leaders, faculty, staff and students.

Strong knowledge of public sector accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Ability to analyze, improve, and document processes.

Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as Google Suite.

Experience with Lawson Financials or other ERP system, preferred.  

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
