Salary Range: $20.26 – $24.17 per hour
Essential Functions and Objectives:
Plan, develop and implement training programs for bus drivers to ensure that safe driving practices are in adherence to District and State transportation policies, rules and regulations. This is a working position where driving a bus is required.
– Conduct bus driver training including safe driving and safe working methods and procedures training programs.
– Develop, compile and maintain a variety of bus driver records, including license and certificate expirations, medical expirations and advance training hours required for the renewal of the bus driver certificate. Monitor driver certification renewal training programs.
– Counsel and assist new drivers concerning student behavior management and other pupil transportation related problems and situations.
– Assist in the selection and the performance evaluation of bus drivers.
– Ride with bus drivers and evaluate new bus stops or changes in routes, and reports observations of overhanging branches, view obstructions and reports road hazards to appropriate agencies.
– Recommend the assignment of drivers in order to maximize the utilization of equipment and personnel.
– Perform dispatching functions and activities that involve student pick-up assignments, route alterations and updating, and revising student transportation records and files.
– Prepare or assist in the preparation of various management reports pertaining to student transportation that may include cost analyses and projections.
– May conduct bus inspections with bus drivers and reports damage, vandalism, malfunctions and defects.
– Enforce and follow appropriate local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Support a cooperative relationship with appropriate law enforcement agencies.
– May drive a bus over a designated route in accordance with a specified time schedule or may drive a school bus on district routes as dictated by daily absenteeism or driver shortage.
– Perform other duties as assigned.
– This is a safety-sensitive position within the DPS School District and mandatory position requirements include: a copy of current Driving Record at time of hire, clear CBI criminal/background investigation and compliance with Drug Free/Pre-hire and Random Drug testing conducted throughout duration of assignment.

Knowledge, Experience, & Other Qualifications:
– Three (3) years of experience in Transportation and Special Needs Transportation area of a large public sector, governmental entity or corporation or substitutable experience.
– Demonstrated experience driving and knowledge of Denver area city and street grid system.
– Public School Transportation Training experience preferred.
– Excellent employee communications, organizational, time management, and leadership skills.
– Skills to communicate effectively in front of large, diverse, groups both verbally and in writing.
– Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office products including, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and other transportation systems such as Kronos, TRIP, STARS, etc.
– Must have or acquire a valid Colorado Class A Commercial Driver’s License with P2 and S endorsements, and be insurable by the Colorado School District Self Insurance Pool.
– Must have or acquire a Colorado Commercial Driver’s License Driver Skill Testing Examiner’s License for all license classes and be able to understand, handle and oversee all CDL compliance documents.
– Must have or be willing to obtain qualification for Instructor rating in American Red Cross Standard First Aid.
– Knowledge of regulations at Federal, State and Local levels pertaining to pupil transportation.
– Knowledge of entire Denver area city and street grid system.
– Ability to write reports, correspond and track programs.
– Ability to work harmoniously with others.
– Commitment to work as a team member for the benefit of the organization.
– Must be able and committed to handling information in a confidential manner.
Education Requirements:
– High school diploma or equivalent is required.
– Associates degree or higher is preferred.
