Salary Range: $25.30 – $27.62
Essential Functions and Objectives:
Repairs, tests, programs and troubleshoots all fire-alarm and clock equipment (e.g., master-clock, secondary-clock systems, fire alarm systems) in order to achieve a 100% system function for life safety.
Troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs high-voltage and digital fire alarm systems using multiple types of computer software (e.g., integrated building automated system (IBAS), Excel).
– Connects power supply wires to equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
– Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
– Replaces faulty electrical components related to fire alarm for HVAC and kitchen hood systems (e.g., relays, switches, motors, positions sensing devices).
– Diagnoses, repairs or replaces faulty electronic components in fire alarm control systems.
– Conducts fire alarm system inspections with local fire department.
– Communicates and coordinates with external testing company, and corrects deficiencies in accordance with local fire code.
– Responds to fire alarms and conducts fire drills.
– Determines products and supplies needed for work order; coordinates purchase order and obtains supplies from local vendors.
– Communicates and coordinates with staff at work site.
– Prepares and cleans up job site (e.g., erecting scaffolding), taking into consideration safety concerns of self and others (e.g., students, employees), and disposes of waste and flammable materials.
– Updates and maintains fire alarm system testing documentation.
– Performs work and cross trains in at least one other trade as an apprentice.
– Assists with snow removal efforts on a 24 hour on-call basis.
– Responds to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Under direction of L3 (Master or Multi-Skilled), may assist or perform the following functions:
– Trains and mentors staff.
– Bids on work requested by schools, and prepares quote.
– Inspects work of independent contractors, identifies deficiencies, and communicates with project manager about correcting deficiencies according to code (e.g., city, state) and DPS specifications.
Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:
– 4 years of related experience.
– District specific training or equivalent required for all levels.
– Ability to pass the Respirator Fit Test requirement: Annually and upon hire either during a physical exam or be able to demonstrate the ability to wear a properly fitted respirator.
– Ability to coordinate with other shop staff to complete projects.
– Ability to work effectively with staff at all levels, in all departments.
– Ability to complete work according to specifications, with attention to detail.
– Ability to plan and organize work, at times with interruptions.
– Ability to problem solve and repair/construct items according to specifications.
– Ability to work independently, make decisions and complete assignments.
– Ability to work overtime hours as necessary and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
– Ability to interpret and read blueprints and drawings.
– Ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing.
– Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and meet District insurability standards.
– Denver Fire License required.
– National Institute for Certification Engineering Technologies (NICET) preferred.
– Valid State of Colorado Journeyman and/or Master Electrician license preferred.
Education Requirements:
– High school diploma or equivalent.
