Salary Range: $22.26 – $23.84 per hour
Essential Functions and Objectives:
The Cabinetmaker does the design, fabrication, repair, and replacement of cabinetry, furniture, millwork and fixtures utilizing woodworking and shop skills.
– Designs custom cabinets, workstations, showcases, office furniture, computer labs, considering customer input, work order, building site dimensions, and material type.
– Custom builds and installs cabinets and furniture made of a variety of materials (e.g., laminate, wood).
– Manufactures custom millwork that matches existing trim and moldings in historic buildings.
– Operates millwork machinery (e.g., shaper, table saw, joiner).
– Repairs or replaces cabinets, countertops and furniture made of a variety of materials (e.g., laminate, wood).
– Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
– Performs scheduled maintenance of millwork tools.
– Tears out, builds, and installs white or bulletin boards into existing frames and new application aluminum frame boards.
– Performs demolition work on existing cabinet work and furniture.
– Verifies accuracy of repairs using related tools (e.g., level, square).
– Evaluates repairs; modifies and performs repairs using blueprints; and considering building codes (e.g., UBC) and standards.
– Performs work and cross trains in at least one other trade.
– Assists with snow removal efforts on a 24 hour on-call basis.
– Responds to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
– Communicates and coordinates with staff at work site and with other shop staff.
– Prepares and cleans up job site (e.g., erecting elevation structures) taking into consideration safety concerns of self and others (e.g., students, employees), and disposes of waste and flammable materials.
– Trains and mentors staff.
– Bids on work requested by schools, and prepares quote.
– Inspects work of independent contractors, identifies deficiencies, and communicates with project manager about correcting deficiencies according to code (e.g., city, state) and DPS specifications.
Skill Requirements:
– Minimum of four (4) years’ experience and training.
– District specific training or equivalent required for all levels.
– Experience establishing computer based preventative maintenance software program preferred.
– Operates and drives District vehicles.
– Operates and uses variety of equipment and tools (e.g., hand tools, table saw, drills, drill presses, metal shears, joiner, shaper, wide-belt sander, lathe, router).
– Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and meet District insurability standards.
– Operates and uses general office equipment including PC, copiers, fax, scanner and calculator.
– Ability to coordinate with other shop staff to complete projects.
– Ability to work effectively with staff at all levels, in all departments.
– Ability to complete work according to specifications, with attention to detail.
– Ability to plan and organize work, at times with interruptions.
– Ability to problem solve and repair/construct items according to specifications.
– Ability to work independently, make decisions and complete assignments.
– Ability to work overtime hours as necessary and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
– Ability to interpret and read blueprints and drawings.
– Ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing.
Credential Requirements:
– Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and meet District insurability standards.
– Must have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Education Requirements:
– High school diploma or equivalent.
